2200g is just a 1200 with graphics isn’t it?

looking to build a computer in my cs-102 case To get rid of and so going to use my current system to put back in it, however I haven’t got enough money to buy the 1200 plus a gaming gpu and so rather use ryzen apu over my gt 710 lol to tie me over till I can afford a gpu as I got my sight set on a 4gb RX 570 maybe a 580 depending if I buy new or used.

So is the 2200g just the 1200 or will the 1200 have the slight edge?

The 1200 has x16 lanes available for discrete graphics compared to x8 for the 2200G.

The 2200G has a bit better IPC though due to having some of the zen+ improvements and less latency due to having only one CCX.

The 2200G uses the same architecture as the 2000 series so it's Zen+ and will perform better than the 1200 IPC wise. It also has higher clock speeds (3.7GHz vs 3.4GHz boost). There's less L3 cache on the 2200G due to it being 1 CCX module but that will give it a latency advantage compared to the 1200's 2 CCX modules. Another downside is it only has 8 PCIe lanes, but for gaming with a discrete GPU you won't notice that much of a difference.

Did I read something somewhere that you can use both 2200G onboard graphics AND a separate GPU, like Xfire? Or did I imagine that

You must mean Hybrid Crossfire but no, you can't do it because there isn't any other compatible Vega cards that could be paired with it. They would need to bring out a low end, standalone Vega card.

You used to be able to do "Dual Graphics", "Hybrid XFire" or whatever name was bandied around for it, but I don't think it's supported with the new Ryzen APUs

I got my sight set on a 4gb RX 570 maybe a 580 depending if I buy new or used.

You'll likely need a new case as well then - that case only has 240mm GPU clearance (most 570's are around 230-250mm so will be very tight if they even fit). Additionally it has poor cooling (only 2 fan mounts - 120mm side, 80mm rear - NO FRONT) which will likely cause issues with a hot running GPU.

Thanks for replies.

To be honest I don’t think I would ever go dual graphics, didn’t work out well with 2 dedicated cards years ago nevermind the idea of IGP plus dedicated, I’m only looking at the RX range as new or used they are cheaper than a 1060 6gb.

Only looking at the 1200 again because it’s meant to be a big step up over the 860k and my system does all I need currently and doing it well, so no point spending more than I need unless I find a better cpu/mobo bundle used for cost of new.

A Screen I want to get is only 1080p and widescreen.

I’m not building a new system in to that case, I will use my F3 case and put my current system back in to the aerocool case like it was before apart from a different psu and drives will be used, so card size and cooling won’t be an issue.

The 1200 will do a good job paired with a 580

It's a good cpu. The 2200g would be a little better still and it's just good to get on the Ryzen platform as your motherboard will support any other AM4 cpu up until 2020. Just make sure the case has the room for the card.

I would probably go for the 2200G because you have to wait for a card. The Vega 8 igpu will be much stronger than the 710.

well in the end i went with the 1200 as it was in sort of a bundle and cost me £55 on a private sale earlier, ordered 4gb 2400 ram with prime that be here tomorrow so i can test it works like they told me it does.

i will be connecting my 710 to it and test it all outside the case, ive got some videos to make with my current system, so no rush to swap it all over as long as it all works, im going to get a decent stop gap gpu to run the ryzen with to still game and likely wait for black friday to see any deals on the good stuff.

thanks for replies.
