Hi

I'm considering doing a complete upgrade but before I do I just wanted to know if there are any AGP cards that are capable to running games on a 1920 X 1200 screen.

My current radeon 9800 pro can't even get the games running - just a black screen.

Thanks

I think I read somewhere that ATI were planning on doing an AGP version of their new 3800 series cards (It might have been a rumour, but from what I read people seemed to be saying it was more or less true). Not sure which one, but if any card which uses an AGP slot would run games it'd be that (because you can't get an AGP version of the nVidia 8800's). They're not out yet anyway (AFAIK) if they are going to make them.

for the spec in your sig? don't even bother. you'd be much better off building a budget dual core/pci-e system. ddr2 is dirt cheap. dual core cpus are dirt cheap. plus you have a huge choice of gfx cards to match whatever budget you have.

Agreed. I think some newer AGP cards will physically run 1920x1200, but with an Athlon XP CPU and 512MB RAM then any semi-modern game will be a slideshow at that res.

Pretty much any half-decent AGP card should be capable of doing 1920x1200 with the right driver (even ancient cards like gf2 or whatever), although obviously to get decent framerates in games it would need to be something recent. I'm surprised it doesn't work on your 9800pro, could be a refresh rate issue? Got the latest drivers?

thanks all

I think i'll bite the bullet and just do the whole upgrade. Probably just get an OCUK system. At least video encoding wont take forever then if I get the quad core.
