Not sure whether to go for;

a) BenQ G2400W

or

b) Dell S2409W

Like the idea of the true HD on the Dell, but then I've heard mixed about the screen and the resolution for gaming, so leaning towards the BenQ, not heard much about it (no news is good news I suppose) anyone have any opinions?

My plan is to run my PC via HDMI cable from GFX > Monitor, and get a Scart>VGA cable to be able to watch TV on it via VGA port. I know this wont carry sound, so what cable would I need to get sound to play when watching TV, my cable box has the standard red and white audio outpot ports.

Help would be gratefully appreciated :D

Good feedback thanks, I've just done a search in the forums for the BenQ (I know shoulf of done it in the first place :rolleyes:) and it gets good comments.

Any else got one?

Just looked through the monitor range again for anything which is fully HD, HDMI, DVI & VGA ports, and not much more than £300....cant decide between the following;

OcUK Value Hanns-G HG281DP 28" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black (is there really a need for 28" ???)
BenQ G2400W 24" Widescreen HDMI/HDCP LCD HD Monitor - Black
BenQ V2400W 24" Widescreen HDMI/HDCP LCD HD Monitor - Black/Silver
Hyundai W240D-PVA 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Glossy Black

For your audio needs you'll need a 3.5mm jack to 2 RCA phono if you plan on plugging in your cable audio to your PC audio in port so you can enjoy the audio from your cable out of your pc speakers. You will need a 2 rca phono to 2 rca phono if you plan on connecting the cable box to a hifi or seperate amplifier.

I too am deciding on a 24", leaning towards the BenQ V2400W.

the FP241W is a much more expensive monitor than the G2400W, and is an MVA or similar panel compared to the cheaper TN panel of the G2400W. You only really need a more expensive monitor if you are going to be doing professional design/photo work in specialist apps I believe, the more expensive panels have better viewing angles. A TN is fine for most people. If you're going to spend silly money on a more expensive monitor just for the purpose of tv/movie viewing because of improved viewing angles and colours then it might be worth buying a proper lcd tv instead. TN panels are fine as long as you are facing them straight or nearly straight on, so if you're going to sit in a chair or on a bed you need to be able to turn the TN monitor to face you.

The V2400W is an improved panel of the G2400W, with a more unique design. The G2400W is discontinued I believe (can still be found), and is replaced by the G2400WD which contains the same improved panel as the V2400W but in the G2400W casing. Check the BenQ site www.benq.co.uk

the benq models all have hdmi/dvi/vga and audio headphone output from hdmi source. They all support 1:1 pixel mapping I believe so are good for 16:9 sources. They are also not too demanding with power and claim a 55w maximum use, compared to a 100w of the samsung sm 245b+.

I've just seen a 3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Audio Cable, that looks the right one....sorry to sound stupid, so if I plug the red and white cables into the Audio out on the cable box, and the 3.5mm connector into....the blue socket on audio cards (Line In)??? Is that right. Then I can select the audio source in Windows to be played on the speakers? That right?

As for monitor, think I'm swaying now towards the BenQ V2400W or the iilyama B2403WS, both look good screens with full HD support and good all round screens from what I've read. And I like how they've both got audio out sockets for headphones.....decisions decisions :rolleyes::p:D

yeah that's correct - in your windows sound card options you select line in as the rec source. It's fine to do it this way if you don't need the audio in port for anything else you want to do because it will be annoying if you keep having to swap the audio cable in and out of your pc. I have a hi fi amp where I can plug audio sources in like that instead of going through a pc. Having audio routed through the pc sound card obviously means you will have to have the pc turned on to hear the audio from your cable box, most people have their pc turned on while at home for regular use anyway so this won't be an issue.

I've got the V2400W in a cart somewhere ready, but I found it cheaper elsewhere compared to OC. £70 cheaper. Big savings.

Thanks! You've been a big help BassPwr!

I've usually got my PC on when I'm at home anyway either I'm on it or got it on in background, so won't be a problem switching via the sound card options.

Good find for the monitor, I'm swaying more towards that one myself now. Emails in my contact info if you care to let me know where;)

Well I found it cheaper so bought from there...getting delivered tomorrow

Will let you know what the monitors like when I get it, should fit a lot better on my new desk :)

Just got the monitor, turned up this morning 8:40 :) Looks a truly gorgeous monitor, unfortunaly I'm at work so cant really test by hooking it upto my PC with high res...but I plugged it into work PC this morning, and looks great, no dead pixels or any other problems, buttons on the front work a treat with good menu, only draw backs I could say was that it only came with a VGA cable!?!?! for a monitor which has DVI and HDMI, I'd expect at least a DVI, oh well no loss, I've got spare cables at home to set it up

Nice one, glad to hear you're happy with the purchase (so far) :)
I'm a little worried about dead pixels because of the increased panel area, I suppose you can always return it though for a refund.

I think most monitors don't come with a hdmi cable, maybe only the more expensive monitors do.

Make sure you take some photos and post them here and in the monitor pics thread!

What graphics card you running? I think my 8800gtx could do pretty nicely at 1920x1200.
