24" Gaming Monitor review

Thanks mate, see that as well as the acer one - was really looking for something around the 300 mark and pref not some horrible color :)

That NEC seems to be a bit out of most people's budget, to be honest. I have heard it delivers on the price though.

If I had £300, I'd try grab a decent VA panel (like the Hyundai 240D-PVA). You might go over-budget by a tenner or so, but it's definitely something to consider if you're avoiding the unrealistic, "dithered" colours inherent in most 6-bit colour TN panels.

I couldnt say one panel type is better than the other for gaming. There are good VA/TN/IPS monitors out there, as well as bad ones. Input lag, viewing angles, dithering, interpolation quality, colour/backlight uniformity, black levels and many other things factor in. It's also worth considering that most of the "high-end" gaming monitors, like the NEC's and Eizo's, are indeed premium quality VA's - despite that 6ms response time.

Just as an aside: in pretty much every case, I'd recommend the IPS-based panels. Unfortunately, they're fairly scarse in todays market, and cost around the £400 mark. :(

So the VA are best for gaming? 6ms :(

I think someone on here explained why a 6ms response on a VA was as good as a 2ms response on a TN panel but I can't remember now lol.

I have a VA panel with 6ms response time and I have never had a problem and I play a lot of COD4.

Does anyone else know of any current 24" TFT shootouts? I'm not looking for the most amazing 24" monitor around, just a 24" TFT with very little lag and half decent looking.

Looking at the Samsung SM-2433BW myself... "This Week Only" offer... very tempting, looks lovely! Any reviews / info / user feedback yet? I can't find ANYTHING... google skills fail me?!

Also, what is OcUK's dead pixel return policy? Or do I deal directly with the manufacturer?

There is a shootout in the new issue of Total PC Gaming. Summary of the winner and some info is here.

Thanks mate - unfortunately i can not justify spending that much on the NEC and i'm worried about the samsung with regards to inconsistencies in the supplied panel and the 5ms refresh rate.

Out of the monitors available on OCUK i was thinking the BenQ V2400W. Any thoughts people ? Was also thinking about the Asus MK241H
