Earlier this month it was reported that this season of 24 would likely be the last for the series as the ratings have dropped and Fox seems disinterested in continuing production. At the time it was mentioned that the studio is considering shopping the series to other networks, but everyone believed that interest would probably be limited due to the high costs involved. It was later reported that Fox has been approached by NBC to pick up the series. But that last ditch effort did not come through. Series director/producer Jon Cassar announced minutes ago on Twitter that the show has been officially canceled: News from the 24 set,the crew has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will b no season 9. Its been a great run, thanx all 4 watching

I guess it was always going to happen sooner or later, but how sad. I guess this means there will also be no ultimate ending, as season 8 was probably filmed with season 9 in mind. :(
 
It's not surprising really, I loved the first few seasons and have watched all the others too, but the formula is tired now and there's nowhere new they can take it really. The first few seasons were far far better then the more recent few.

As said above, would be great if they did a final season, knowing it was the final season
 
Maybe they'll do a one of special to tie up all the loose end although Jack doesn't usually leave any behind. :p
 
Really enjoyed previous seasons but not been overly keen on the latest season, i find the story about the girl with the secret past particularly boring tbh
 
It's a shame, not because it's ending but because it's ending on such a down point. Season 7 was surprisingly good so I had high hopes for season 8 but so far it's just been a lot of padding and not too much going on. The latest episode did give me my first OMG WTF moment of the season and I was hoping it would be going up from there...seems not.

It kind of reminds me of The X-Files...once the biggest show on the planet, loved and adored by millions. Then they just dragged it out, cashed in season after season and it went downhill so bad.
 
Real shame to see it go, but the current season has been dreadfully cliched and utterly ridiculous at times (even by 24 standards), to the point it's almost become a parody of itself.

Rather end it there than see it get any worse.

I just hope we still get to see the movie, as that would be awesome as it would most definitely have an uber ending. It would be something like Jack having to sacrifice himself to prevent a bomb from killing everyone in LA and most of America, but no one would know he did it.
 
Perfect timing to be honest, last few seasons have been pretty bad compared to the first 2 or 3. Bye bye Bauer
 
Aye, not saddened by this at all. Everyone could see it coming, might as well end it here.

In my book:

Seasons 1-3 = Awesome
Seasons 4-6 = Rubbish
Season 7 = Awesome
Season 8 (So far) = Ok/Meh
 
It had to happen, as they say “All good things must come to an end”. It should have come earlier but these things always do go on for too long. Seasons 1-3 were the business, the rest were on the slippery slope downhill.

This in all honesty...it sucks that its been cancelled but i mean how many more times is poor Jack gonna save the American govts backside??:p

Saying that this season has been pretty immense...ive actually enjoyed most of the previous series too.

Will be sad when it finishes though:(.

Personally I thought it went down hill after season 4. Should have ended ages ago.
