24 pin MB Connector Burnt!

Hi, just had this problem since I have gone Tri SLI, I think its a connection problem with too much power being drawn through the PCI Express?

Got a new PSU, the MB seems to have survived it, althought 2 pins are black, but its running.

Could this happen again?

Just about to buy a OCZ 1250w whilst my Corsair HX1050 comes back from RMA, then I will sell the new Corsair PSU I think.

I was running Tri SLI 480s at stock, so it could have been one of the connections that was loose and caused resistance, which made a build up of heat and melted the 24pin yellow wires.

Do you think the rest of my system will be ok, its running fine, there are still 2 black pins on the mb but it seems to be ok?

Would the HX1050 have had enough power?

Its only the 2 yellow wires that melted and burned

The 12v rail when 3 cards are in reads 11.30v in the bios after all this happened, so something must have been damaged in the PSU.

It use to read 11.60 when it was new

Yes, the plugs are melted, but the PSU will fix that.

Its fine with 1 GTX 480 in 12.02v on 12v line

Its just out of warranty,ran out Feb 12!

I was only browsing the internet when it shut off, so there was no great load on it.

This was when I first noticed they were burnt, since then I cleaned it up and replugged it in through an extender and it runs 3 cards fine, but the 12v rail is low, could be a damage PSU

What about hard wiring a PSU 24pin extender to it

Whats the best way of cleaning the mb pins up?

How is it that I can still run bf3 with all my 3 cards with the same burnt PSU lead and its not getting hot now???

Keep an eye on your 24pin setter!

Will retest when I get my RMAed PSU back and keep an eye on the connectors, why does it still work, when its all melted I want to know?

Back up and running with a new PSU, 12v rail reading 12.19v with Tri SLI 480s!

Got thermo probes on yellow wires on 24pin MB just incase!
