any ideas what could be causing my windows login to take so long? i am on an SSD and it was instant when i first built the computer. this has been going on for a while and it is every time i login. not boot up, actually login. the boot is pretty fast, gets to login screen before i hit my monitor switch.

EDIT - i do malware and virus scans quite regularly. atleast once per week.

What about event logs?
How big a spread between the starting event logs to the services in the logs is there?

Or is it even before that? Ie at the boot screen?

i dont know about all of that apart from the boot screen part. its well past that, its once ive put my password in on the windows login screen just before my desktop shows.

ill check the others now.

any tips where to look for them logs? im in event logs but there are so many options.

i got this at about the time of my login. says "level - warning".

A corrected hardware error has occurred.

Component: PCI Express Root Port
Error Source: Advanced Error Reporting (PCI Express)

Bus:Device:Function: 0x0:0x1C:0x0
Vendor ID:Device ID: 0x8086:0xA110
Class Code: 0x30400

24 seconds! I remember the days of start PC, make and drink coffee, start work.

Check system with Ccleaner and Malwarebytes.

Andi.

yea i use malwarebytes quite often. i done a malwarebytes and a defender scan before posting.

thats exactly what i use to do before i got the SSD. but im now use to pressing the button and logging in within 20 seconds max.

ok so i found the winlogon event and that is at 18:32:16 then the 1st service control manager is at 18:32:45 which is about how long it takes for the thing to stop spinning and for me to get onto the desktop.

also if this is needed - there are 4 kernel-general events between logon and service manager events.

That error points towards an Intel device (the vendor ID is Intel, can't seem to pinpoint the device from the ID.

What Intel hardware do you have? My guess is its something integrated on your motherboard. If so, check your manufacturer's website and acquire the latest drivers.

motherboard and cpu
Z170n Gaming 5 gigabyte and an i5 6600k

EDIT - actually my fan was going mad halfway through the malwarebytes scan and it said the temps reached 92c but the air coming from the radiator was really cool and all of a sudden it wnet slow again and temps normalised.

Shouldn't be getting that hot. I've got the same board with an i7 6700, and under aida64 stability test, it hits 80c max.

Are you sure you got all 4 pegs on securely? (when you turn to lock in position, you shouldn't hear a grindy noise, it should smoothly lock with no movement).

I don't think it's your cpu though, as I don't think it starts throttling till near 100c?

Try creating a new user account and log in with that.

yes ive set it to 4.3

tbh i think that the error was a temp monitoring fault as there was no heat what so ever coming from the radiator with the fan on nearly full whack. it hasnt gone past 62 before that and tbh it barely goes over 56 when playing games. since i built the computer in january it hasnt even got to 80% of that heat.

that sounds pretty bad but i have not had an issue and knew nothing of this until i viewed the event log. so i dont think it is effecting anything.

seems the BIOS downloads for this motherboard are not compatible with 64-bit systems...

Don't flash from Windows. Just download it and stick it near the root so you can find it easier. The built in flashing utility can read your drive, if it doesn't, find a fat32 usb stick.

The reason your cpu would be overheating is that the cooling system isn't attached properly, so you wouldn't feel the extra heat at the radiator! Not that I think it is the fault or anything :p
