2407WFP "Time Used" in service menu....

Hi,

Does anyone have any clue why my 2407WFP seems to be counting time used as listed in the service menu even when my monitor is switched off, I leave the PC on 24/7 yet the monitor I power down with the on/off switch.

However, it still counts the time even when the monitor is off, or seems to!

Any ideas?

not sure why it would do that, but i wouldnt bother worrying about it. might be including time spent even on standby? why worry tho, just enjoy

Mine seems to have done the same - at least it is showing 29 hours or so and I unpacked it and turned it on roughly 29 hours ago. It has, however, been turned off (i.e. lights off but still connected to the mains) for at least 8 hours in between so it seems as though as long as the power cord is connected, irrespective of whether it's in standby or front panel power off, it's still counting...

Apparently, because its still plugged into the mains its still on, even though its completely OFF, Baddass, its not in standby. Standby would show an orange light on the power button. However, it seems that to the monitor it must still be in some kind of standby mode.

It must still have power even when its off at the power button. So the only solution to stop the count was to unplug it from my mains adapter, mines upto 40 hours (even though its been used less than half of that).

If I unplug and switch back on it had a "Dell" logo on boot up. Its a shame it doesnt have a power switch like the IBM L200p at work, its got a power button on the front and a power switch on the side.

The technical specs in on the Dell website state that when it is switched off it consumes less than 1W (at 230 V) see here.

My A04 is doing the same, so it looks like the only time the Dell considers itself to be off is when it is not connected to the mains.

If it really bothers you, there are surge protectors with a built in function to switch off all peripherals at the mains (and turn them back on when you turn on the PC). That'd stop the counter!

It would appear to be a Bug in the Firmware.?
So it is potentially easy for Dell to fix, but depends if there willing to change it.

But then again it may not be a Bug, and could have been wrote into the Firmware. But i can understand why its annoying, will have to look into it further when i buy mine next month. (I hope).
