24mm f1.4 v 16mm f1.8 for landscape astrophotography

I find the old classic 500 rule to be off the mark for most modern cameras. I use the more accurate NPF rule which also takes into account the megapixels of the camera.

From an astro photography perspective the 24 mm f1.4 is the much better lens. My preferred lens is a 20mm f1.8 as the 24mm is a bit too narrow for me and means I need to create pano's more often.

I went for the Sigma Dg hsm 24mm F1.4 thinking the extra 2/3 stops will also come in useful for other things along with apsc mode, when required. I'll take a look at the NPF rule. Thanks for the reply :)

Good choice, a great lens for astro. I highly recommend Photopills which is great for astro photography in general but also has an NPF calculator built in (in the "Spot Stars" section). Just enter your model of camera, lens focal length and aperture and it gives you the maximum exposure time.
