MY sisters laptop is dying, so as well as getting a new one I've suggested that she gets a caddy for it and uses it as an external backup. Has anyone got any recomendations?

Cheers,
PK!

I work in IT and tried half a dozen or more different 2.5" caddies some would
work on some PC's but not others.

The above recommended Icy Box External Enclosure IB-281U unit I got worked
on everything I attached it to without problem , get one its the best choice.

I use an Omata one for the old SATA drive from my Macbook - about £10, IIRC.

It's USB2 and can be used without an external power supply, although a separate PSU can be attached, I think.

I shall probably get another when my current hard drive fills up.

Got both my SATA and IDE 2.5" enclosures from ebay and each cost £5 delivered. Have used both drives on over a dozen rigs without any problems.
