For my sister's birthday/xmas present. She listens to music and watches movies using her iPhone and Macbook Pro as sources (not the best I know).

I haven't really kept up with this field. What do you guys suggest?

We already have a SP2500 and Aego M so looking for something different and superior.

The Edifier S530?

Cheers guy :)

Oh I got confused with 9.0 and the first link which were 9.1. Totally get it now.

So I'll get dacads bundle, the AM1 and some cables. Don't cables normally come included? Is it just male to male RCA cables? And if yes, 2 of those?

Ahhh if she has to fiddle with the amp and sub volume separately, I think that'd really inconvenience her.

Maybe I should just go 2.0 and buy the Audioengine A5+ instead?

Right so I just need to connect them correctly. Ok to make this clear on what I need to get, I need to connect these:

to

with speaker cables in the 2 centre red loudspeaker terminals and another 2 speaker cables into

the 2 red "speaker level inputs".

Then on the AM1 "mp3/aux" port, I use a RCA to 3.5mm cable to connect to the iPhone.

How's that?

Yeah she's just a teenager so I don't want to go overboard. I'm sticking with the 9.1, SW150 and AM1. Thanks a lot for your input guys; it's really helped a lot.

Aye setting it up should be a breeze but I wanted to make sure I got all the necessary accessories and not make the surprise a flop!

Anyways thanks again!

Now I'm more confused then ever. So I also need to plug one cable into the subs left RCA output into somewhere on the amp? I'm going to Richer Sounds today anyway so if anything I can ask them.

So what's the list of what you're buying? :)

Damn I was afraid someone would ask. Ok I lied cos I didn't want to sound like an idiot even after all these replies. Err..

WD 9.1s, SW150, Topaz AM1 and cables I was planning to buy 6 sets of speaker cables and one set of RCA to 3.5mm. Anything in abudance I can simply return..that is the plan anyway.

lol no need to be afraid, we are here to help :p

You will need two sets of RCA cables, one for connecting amp to source (iPhone etc) and another for connecting sub to amp, as the speaker inputs will all be used up by the speakers.

And I appreciate it very much. So its:

-RCA from amps rec out to subs line level input
-RCA from amps mp3/aux input to iPhone
-2 sets of speaker cables, 1 for each speaker to amp
-2 sets of speaker cables, 1 for each speaker to sub speaker level input

I hope this is correct.

Basically, you have 2 cables coming from each of the binding post outputs.

Rather than 2 pairs, 1 to each to speaker, there are 4 pairs. 1 to each speaker and to the subwoofer.

The reason why you can connect the subwoofer to the speaker output as well as the speakers, is because the subwoofer is not being amplified by the AM1, like the speakers are. The subwoofer has it's own amplfier, it just uses the speaker inputs from the amp to listen to the signal.

Ooh I see.. that makes things so much clearer. I thought it was a passive sub the whole time. Method A on page 11 with the front speakers. Thanks!

I've just been to richer sounds. They told me the AM1 isn't very powerful (20x2) and the 9.1s are also 20x2 and that you should never max out the wattage.

So what does this mean? I can't turn it up full volume? And if I connect the sub, it's not gonna blow up the amp is it? Maybe she was just trying to upsell to me lol.

Anyways I went ahead and bought it. Lemme know whether it's ok to proceed with the SW150 + 9.1s. Thanks in advance!

I've returned the AM1 and deciding on getting the Denon PMA-520AE for £122. That plus speakers, subwoofer (she's a basshead so not getting a sub isn't really an option) and cables will definitely drive it over £350 and I just can't stretch anymore.

On fleabay. I know nothing about whats good or not. This is recommendation I've read on another forum to go with the 9.1s. If that's considered a good price I might just grab it.
