Over the last month I have been getting random BSOD it varies but the main one is a ' bad pool header ' error. I tested the ram and is all good, so I put it down to the SSD or the OS causing instability, there is no OC on the system.

Today there is a new bios update for my mobo, i stick in on a flash drive, rebooted PC and loaded setup defaults and rebooted.

Screen does not come back on, rig turns on but there is no USB power and the RAM LED stays on. I did all the usual tests, removing on board battery to clear CMOS, tried single sticks of ram in all slots, reseated CPU, removed all hardware, nothing works.

I tried the ram in my mates rig and it works fine, his does not work in mine though, so that rules out the ram and leaves the mobo and CPU. I'm thinking it could be the memory controller on the 2500k with the RAM LED post error.

You guys have any clue? about to start an RMA but don't know what to RMA.

Specs

2500k
GTX480
Asus P8Z68-v
Corsair 8GB vengeance
Corsair HX750

My 'gut reaction' is - the board.:(

NO evidence but the failure AFTER the bios update does incriminate it , somewhat:eek:

Then again I ain't no detective:confused:

No 'spare' board available to try the cpu in?

Never got to update the bios, simply loaded setup defaults and rebooted, only it didn't post, mobo comes to life and fans kick in at full speed and it just stays that way. As stated the LED for the memory stays on and according to the manual if the LED stays on it means there is a problem. I have tested the RAM in my mates rig and it works fine, I can ony assume its the CPU or mobo, I'm edging towards the CPU and its memory controller.

Can't test the CPU, mates not keen to take his rig apart.

Sorry my bad - did not read the initial post properly. But am still more inclined to blame the board; simply because I've not read much about failures and the 2500k (except though excessive volt usage) but boards .....

Given the refusal - would recommend a new one - what are mates for ?

As of problem it was running at stock, the only LED error is for the memory but that has been tested in my mates rig and it works fine. I tried his ram in my rig and still no boot. Being it a memory error I was thinking the memory controler on the 2500 has gave up the ghost. Checked the pins on mobo and pads on CPU, all is good.

My guess would be a bad bios flash given the timing of it, it might be worth trying Ebay for a pre-flashed bios before going the RMA route (as long as it's not too expensive).

4.5 @ 1.27v, no crazy voltage. Dropped to stock a few month back to see if the system freezes would stop, they did initially but came back a few week a go throwing up memory related BSOD. Only got the gear in December.

Tried real hard to get him to try it but hes got his cooler setup sweet with great temps, he won't budge.

I bought the ram, mobo and CPU as one order, think I'll just RMA the lot and see what the score is.

As stated there was no bios flash, simply a load up of system defaults in preparation to flash the bios, after reboot system does not post.

With no facility to check cpu or board :( Rma sound the best idea - Good luck !

Would be interested to know what the problem actually was so if you get to know please advise.:)

Just connected a speaker to the mobo to check for beep error codes, with memory in there is no codes, with memory out I get one long beep and two short beeps. Googling this brings up a number of errors for Asus mobos, memory or video being the main problem.

Seriously doubt the CPU will be faulty. Modern CPU's don't just fail unless you stick an excessive voltage through them. It will most certainly be the motherboard.

I see, thought you had flashed and then reset the bios. I still think it's more likely to be the motherboard than the CPU though.
