2500K longevity ?

The only thing my chip struggles with is a game that known to be a bitch on the CPU where everybody suffers (and this is something only the dev's can sort out).

2500k is fine for at least two years I'd say.

Though my overclocked 2500K is fine I think I would be tempted to upgrade earlier based on power consumption. An heavily overclocked 2500K can use around 100W more power under load than a stock one (bit-tech fgures from about a year ago) and with future CPUs/chipsets having even more power saving this can add up.
Though the energy cost saving might not be big (and not a decision factor for most people here) there is the appeal of a smaller, cooler and therefore quieter system in the near future.

The 2500K is still an awesome CPU, especially overclocked. There have been no real significant advancements on the CPU front since the original i5/i7's hit the market really. Lack of competition and lack of any real need for more grunt are the main reasons.

I reckon a well overclocked 2500K will be good for another 4/5 years. Although I suspect i'll get the itch to upgrade within two years (probably more for the new motherboard chipset/features as much as CPU grunt).

True, but when idel,or not doing much work, it clocks down to 1.6ghz, so the power factor isnt really a problem.

Look lets all face it , most of the folks here just like tinkering around with their rigs and love to have the latest gear thats the driving factor. Unless your folding or gaming 24/7 most of our machines are half aleep at 1600 mhz anyway..
