Looking good so far, keep us up to date
Day to day, I use mine at 4.8GHz.
Mine will do the following rounded up:
4.9GHz @ 1.40v
4.8GHz @ 1.34v
4.7GHz @ 1.30v
4.6GHz @ 1.28v
I had another 2500K that did 4.5GHz @ 1.33v, 4.6GHz @ 1.34v, it woudn't clock any higher.

Yeah my better CPU was a Costa Rica one. I used IBT to test stability with decent temps.jacob1995knight said:Thats pretty sweet for the voltages, similar to mine.
Every chip is different tho
im suprised how well 1.42v does for 5GHZ

Yeah my better CPU was a Costa Rica one. I used IBT to test stability with decent temps.
I didn't manage to stablise 5GHz, going from the increments of voltage, I reckon it would have taken 1.48v, but I wasn't prepared to take it beyond what I already tried.![]()
You might find that a certain speed requires a big jump in vcore. My 2550k does:
[email protected]
[email protected]
[email protected]
4.7 unstable at 1.41
4.8 unstable at 1.45
So 4.6 is the sweet spot for me.
I would mess around with load line calibration or vdroop settings. I know roughly where they'll be on your mobo as I have a similar board.
low overclock without high voltage
Looks like you got the short end of the stick with that processorlow overclock without high voltage
I got lucky with mine, [email protected] stable
With the exception of my current reference 780 I have lost every single silicon lottery I have played. I had a 780 lightning that was unstable at +26mhz, 680 and 660 before that were the same.
It's possible I am doing something wrong, but I have Googled every setting on the z77 mpower and they are all on the more overclocking friendly option.
That being said the only voltage I am adjusting is vcore, all the others are on auto.
Out of the blue, what power supply are you using, age, wattage?
This does sound like an issue with the motherboard however.
PSU used to be a 600W PCP&C Silencer MKIII. I switched to a Corsair RM850 whilst I had my 680 and the max overclock I could get didn't change.
Motherboard used to be a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3-B3 which I only used for clocks up to 4.2Ghz and nowadays it's an MSI MPower. It's my 2nd MPower (first died after a year) and there has been no change in the clocks I can achieve.
i dont think i have ever reached the limits of my 2500K, never pushed it that far.....TBF that sounds like very bad luck, my 770's are both +110Mhz on core with no voltage bump.
now running 4.6Ghz @ 1.375 Vcore.
so today i will do 4.7Ghz and game all day, i dont just want a moosive clock it as to be usable too.
temps i get now are GPU a massive 37c(Load).... and CPU 51c (Load)
Load is gaming not stress testing
the boy on dirt showdown free running for 2hr's(this when max temp was hit)
Me titan fall, Cod, Sniper elite 3.
) the coil whine does my head it!!! I too get over 110Mhz overclock on both of my R9 290Xs, but as the cards are new (water cooled however) the coil whine does my head it!!!
As for temps, i get 26.c idle for the cpu and a similar result for the graphics cards, but under load, im hitting 45 - 50 on the cpu and around 55.c on the cards.
To be fair, i need to upgrade my water cooling asap as its not up to the job of a 5.00Ghz processor and two 290X's that are running a high overclock.
I am also running water cooling. 3 blocks with a 360 rad in case and an 540 rad outside the case. the rad outside the case made a massive difference as its not pulling hot system air in to it.
My idle temps on the CPU are 31c but i dont have the best block
@ Disco_P, my rule with GPU's is always buy reference i find i always have very good luck clocking ref cards, but my 7970 windforce was horrible
but im not gaming as much just to be sure, i CANT wait to upgrade
Enthoo Primo case + 1 x 420mm + 1 x 360mm + 2 x 240mm
ok so i found 2 clocks i am happy with but don't know if the second is worth the extra volts.
4.5Ghz @ 1.300
4.6Ghz @ 1.385
is the extra 0.1Ghz worth the extra 0.085V
When going with temps do i go with the package or the individual core temps.
temps are 4.6Ghz @ 1.385v
Idle - Min core0 27c / Max core3 32c / package 35c
Load - Min core0 57c / Max core2 67c / package 57c

0.1Ghz is not really worth it unless you are doing benchmarks etc, you wont notice it as well.
Thats a really big jump in volts as well, but dont be afraid to go higher as thats quite low![]()
anythink over that is unstable even at 1.5v
that sucks
real shame
