What is Sandy Bridge 2500k maximum RAM support and how big can the DIMMS be?

Max RAM is determined by the motherboard as far as I know rather than the chip.

I know about OS restrcitions

someone on tomshardware said SB does not support 8GB RAM DIMMS, I am trying to determine if this is correct?

Motherboard only says

it says 4 slots, 32GB RAM

so surely it supports 8gb dimms?

The spec page says the maximum RAM is 32GB (4x8GB), just the same as the Gigabyte Z68 XP UD4 in your sig.

The OP says he knows about the OS restrictions but just in case here are the upper RAM limits for the different editions of 64 bit Windows 7:

•Starter: 8GB
•Home Basic: 8GB
•Home Premium: 16GB
•Professional: 192GB
•Enterprise: 192GB
•Ultimate: 192GB
