Salutations,
So about 20 minutes ago I was playing borderlands 2 with a friend when I noticed massive slowdowns. I have a keyboard with a display and I switched to the CPU/RAM monitoring application and my CPU was hitting 100% load. I then began to monitor it for the next 20 minutes and it seems that I'm constantly around 64% - 80% with spiking of 100%. I asked my friend what his was running at and he said about 30% - 50%. I then tried closing some useless processes and turning the graphics to low but it didn't make any difference. I then restarted my computer thinking maybe it was just a hiccup but unfortunately that was not the case. I've just tried playing on Counter Strike GO, now usually I'm about 30% load with this game but I was at a solid 90% - 100%. Below is a screenshot if that's useful.

This is just after I closed counter strike.

The CPU idles just fine like now whilst web browsing listening to music and typing this out I'm not getting any spikes nor going over 10%. And the last system change I did was installing the BETA Nvidia drivers about a week ago.

I'll try uninstalling the driver tomorrow but any suggestions in the meantime would be very helpful.

Specs:
I5 2500K @ 4.6Ghz
8GB RAM
GTX 680

look in task manager/processes

then look in the list for counter strike exe and see if its still running, right click it and click end process, sometimes games dont close properly and run in the background

or look for anything in the process list thats showing a high cpu usage

EDIT sorry i realised its in game, idk what that could be,did a virus scan kick in? or anything like that

No, I just did a scan earlier too and no viruses.

Try the power setting in Windows, in the control panel, you might need to change to High Performance. Try running the Windows Experience Index too, this helps it recognise your hardware properly.

Have you tried checking CPU temps, could be throttling? * edit sorry didn't originally read correctly >.< , have you checked what other processes are being run on resource monitor?

It's already set to high performance

Yeah nothing else seems to really be using my CPU it's just all games :S

What are your CPU temps ?
Most likely scenario is CPU overheating and throttling.

Didn't dislodge the CPU fan power plug when taking out the VC for RMA by any chance ?

Run coretemp and check temps.

It's watercooled, I'm around 28 - 34 web browsing/idle and when I'm gaming the highest I've seen it go is 67 but I think that was when the CPU spikes to 100% it's usually around the 50 whilst it's around 60% - 70% usage.

Have you ran cpuz to check the clock speed.
When you hit 100% load what CPU speed are you running.
Run Prime with cpuz open and check.

Your CPU might be cool enough but what about the VRM's.
If they get too hot that causes throttling.

Edit: This new photobucket sucks I keeps screwing the quality of my images.

That looks OK.
Thats the easy solutions exhausted.

What is the CPU usage in game like if you disable the sound ?

How exactly should I disable the sound, do you mean uninstall my sound card driver?

EDIT: Something I've started noticing is that lets say I'm playing borderlands 2 three of the cores will be around 45% - 55% within a period of 5 seconds and this could be when something or nothing is happening in the game. But one core and this core tends to be random either the second or third and lately forth will be at 80% - 100%. Then they will all even out around 60% - 80% again. Seems to be a pattern when playing any games or even just booting into the OS or first time of opening a program like chrome or photoshop.

I'll try experimenting later without my Sound drivers.

Uninstalled Audio drivers and also killed my keyboard processes and it's still spiking.

EDIT: just got batman arkham city from the steam sale and sometimes it hits my CPU up to 100% and I get some horrible stuttering, very annoying. =[
