Ok I've decided that I don't need more than 250GB and if I do i'll get an external or another drive so i'm going for 250GB but which one.

My choices are

SAMSUNG 250GB SATAII 7200rpm (SP2504C/1PK)
SAMSUNG 250GB SATAII 7200rpm retail (SP2504C/KIT)
HITACHI 250gb(8mb) SATAII (HDT722525DLA380)
WESTERN DIGITAL 250gb 8mb SATA-II (WD2500JS)
MAXTOR 250gb(16mb) SATA II (6V250F0)
WESTERN DIGITAL 250gb 16mb SATA-II (WD2500KS)
SEAGATE 250Gb (8Mb) SATA II (ST3250824AS)

Having a really quiet drive ain't that important but would like it to be fast and reliable which of these is the best? Also I don't want to spend more than 55 quid on one.

You can't go wrong with Seagate or WD. My 250GB drive is made by WD and is silent (apart from when spinning down.)

I wasn't too impressed with the first WD drive I used, poorly built and it appears to be the same on my friends one too. My one is good (annodised black looks great too.)

i have 3 hdds oen maxtor one hitachi and one wd, the hitachi is the oldest but also the fittest (according to speedfan) so i'd get a hitachi or a seagate (cos most ppl say they are most reliable), not that wd is bad still in very good shape, just not a maxtor, i have one and its in poorest shape out of my 3 hdd's in my rig while its my newest hdd.

I have two of those, great drives for the money and very fast. These are actually the performance model in the WD standard range before it moves into Raptors.

Youll get loads! of responses for the above seagate drive, also a great drive:)

many thanks guys.

I'm going to go WD. I live in Belgium and the 7200.10 are gold dust here.

Can't afford the extra 30 euros to ship from OC just for a 50 quid drive so shall by it local and WD seems to be in stock.
