hey i have a 2500k at stock atm with a corsair a50 heatsink, currently my cores r idling at around 38-40C
at load with bf3 they are at 60-65c seems quite high imho

just want second opinions before i go out and reapply new gunk

It does seem a little high if you're at stock, at 4.2 and 1.3v mine only hits 56c running Prime95/Intel Burn test (admittedly with a different cooler).

What speed is the fan running at and what's the room temp?

I use a Thermalright MUX 120 Black which clears the RAM sockets completely on my board, no idea if it's any better than what you already have though.

I would just take it off and reapply with a tiny amount of paste, usually people put far too much.

so just reapplied gunk as it seemed one of my heat pipes had none :O

but i came back and when intel burn and my temps spiked upto 67 again and atm idling at 32C i mean the gunk has helped a little but i think my cooler sucks balls so i may buy a new one

what case are you using? could be completely normal depending on your airflow, plus the A50 is hardly a top end cooler...

yh i think i may have to dive in my pockets go get somethin better,
also my case is a antec 300 with 3 120mm xilence fans,
i dont think its my case i am gonna upgrade after christmas

i think new cooler is needed what you reconmend good sir

it needs to be able to avoid my ram heatsinks my baord is a p8z68 if it helps

The A50 isn't a top end cooler but it should be doing better than that. My cooler generally performs 6-7c better and I'm only seeing 57c load (prime95) at 4.5ghz now.

If you do get a new one there's a few to consider, but it depends on your budget.

As I say, mine is doing a decent job and clears the RAM but is hard to find. Something like the Thermalright Archon could be a good choice. It's a bit pricey at just over £50 but should clear your ram.

Even the Silver Arrow, if you can find one, should fit as long as you mount the fans on the middle and left rather than on the right hand side.

Try speading a thin layer of paste over the surface of the processor rather than using a blob.

With the exposed heatpipes the surface of the cooler may not be completely flat so it's not spreading the paste properly.

Use a small dollop of paste (think a large grain of rice rather than a pea) and spread it with your finger covered in cling film.

Does seem a bit warm. I run the same CPU & cooler @ 4.6Ghz 1.31v, the hottest I got was 70c after a long run in prime. Gaming runs at about 56-58c.

Have you got the cpu fan going full bore when under load? What TIM are you using?

i reapplied some mx5 paste in a little strip on each of the copper pipes it knocked it down a little atm idling at 32 under load from standard intel burn i get to 65 but it dont hold its keeps yoyoing -.- gettin quite annoyed by it now i will try it with my fan at full speed see what happens

My friend's got the same cooler as you with his 2500K at 4ghz on auto voltages (1.28v), and it only reaches around 60c on Prime, but 50c on games. Another factor could be room temperature?

Is the cooler tightened properly?

Obviously don't go mental but make sure it's nice and secure, if speeding the fan up doesn't reduce temps then it could be that it's not making very good contact.
