256MB Graphics Memory - Enough?

when i play Quake 4 on my system with max settings(no AA) at 1600-1200 i get a stutter when some doors open, i have been told its because i only have a 256meg card

AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 Processor
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX Extreme Edition 256MB
SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio
OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium
Thermaltake Purepower 560W Psu

lol if you try to play at a rez of 1900x1200 etc your gonna be running into fillrate limitations before memory limitations.

at those resolutions the core is not able to keep up regardless of the how much ram is onboard. although 512mb would give you around 3fps more but its pointless when you getting 7fps to begin with :D

I get mega stuttering with a 128Mb 6600GT when going through doors, although I only have 1GB system RAM as well - happens no where else and after the doors have opened and the next bit of the level has loaded, it's smooth again!

well i ordered it via the internet so that means if there was no internet then i would not have the 4 gig of ram.

than again get all my info from the internet so without the net i would not know what new games are out and the uses for my pc would deminish so less need for the ram.

4 gig is top stuff atleast i know im not gonna run into any ram problems any time soon.
