Please someone help -

X1800XT 256MB for 229 or X1800XT 512MB for £258.

I have a 15" TFT which runs default at 1024x768. Now I know the 256MB is faster at this res, but I also want to sell this on in about 8-10 months for a DX10 card. I'm pretty sure the 512MB will hold a lot more value than the 256MB.

So, what do I do? I may be upgrading my monitor soon anyway, which sways me for the 512MB card, but is it worth it? Help!!!

Someone decide for me, most votes wins!!!

BTW it will cost £110 to go 256MB and £140 to go 512MB in total...

512mb will give better support for very high texture settings in games like quake4 etc..Even at low res.

And maybe better fps performance with high AA/AF settings on.

What your system specs..

Sorry, recently removed my sig pic...

X2 4400+ @ 2.6ghz 1.36v (currently testing @ 2750....but that is another matter)
2GB OCZ Plat EB PC4000 @ 260 3-3-2-5 1T
DFI LanParty UT Ultra-D
Hiper 480W Type-R (should be enough because I run a dual PSU system (all hdu's and watercooling run off the second PSU).

Why not spend the money on a nice 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 TFT?

If you are getting 7K 3Dmaek05 then your rig will run at these resolutions fine
SM3.0 and HDR - pretty much all the games I play have this and my X800 (now dead and in RMA) did not do this...

And the money I save will be a total of £30 - not enough to stretch to a 17" or 19" :p.

For the small increase in price, i'd make the jump to 512mb, as newer games will run better with all effects enables, ie. High Texture Quality... :)

Damn you people - I hate you all... my budget was £200 initially....now it's at £260. I blame you all! :p :D

tbh thats a utter waste having a 512mb x1800xt on a 15" monitor, even with all the temporary aa and af it'll have a massive fps rate. i'd have saved your cash and gone for the 256mb (IF you needed to)tbh for the new tft.

About 2 months before the TFT upgrade though - £30 isn't much, and isn't going to really add anything to the TFT budget. I do actually have a 17" CRT monitor...but it doesn't fit my desk, hence the 15" TFT...

New desk = new room... I have so much stuff in my room now, and I don't want more clutter. Everything fits just nicely now and is all setup well... + a new desk = ~£60 - might as well put that on a new TFT.

For such a small difference in price get the X1800XT 512MB card , will last longer & if you do upgrade to a larger monitor later, will also be better.

Why not wait for the 7900 release, Smids. The prices are rumoured to be very competitive.
Because the X1800XT looks to still be faster than the 7900GT and I don't want to spend £350+ on the 7900GTX varieties...
