£26.01 quad :)

It's great to see that even today, we can still get these hardware gems that allow us to get performance for nothing.

The old Celeron 300A, for those that remember, started the real big gains for overclockers and it's great to see this result.

Now if only we had a few graphics cards that had unlockable pipes like the good old days, or shader units as they are called today...... :D

last graphic card could be unlocked was the 9800gs from galaxy if i remember correctly, they never going to make the same mistake again :(

i still have a x2 6000+ which is is running at 3.2gig and while im tempted to go pII 555BE or PII 955 I really cant see the benefit. I only game and play at 1680*1050 and the 6000+ & 4850 run everything I play (CSS, MW2 & BC2) at full res & pretty much everything on high with 70+ fps so as much as I want to tinker im resisting the urge :D

saying that... if the 555BE drops to the £50 ill snuffle one up^^

If you can run bc2 on that system all on high il eat my hat lol, with rig in sig at 1680 res I get that with everything on high :) although I suppose you don't have dx11 but still :P

Ahh, fair do's :) I'm a sucker for AA and AF, I knida find it curiously addictive, had plenty of issues getting AA to work on all the textures in bc2 lol, sent me up the wall for a bit, I notice jaggies everywhere haha

Yeah Ive never really been a fan. I understand at lower res like 1024*768 you can see more of a difference but at 1680*1050 while running head first into the action you dont really stop and admire just how 'crisp' the wall beside you is LOL.

I have MW2 with EXTRA details and 2x AA & 2 x AF and while it doesnt have ingame FPS & I CBA to install fraps Ive never seen the frames drop. Not sure also how much more graphicslly intesive mw2 is over cod 4 MW but i used to get 90+ fps in cod 4 with 2xAA & 2xAF & EXTRA details too. cant see it dropping or spiking so im happy.

most games still work on faster core speed the difference at my res on a faster cpu is only like 10-20fps and when your getting 70+ with no dips below 50fps does it matter? Only coz I wanna tinker :D

Id be better off getting a 5770 & x2 555be next. but again prob wouldnt run AA :p

Remember paying around £55 for 550BE when they first came out, unlocked instantly and OCed to around 3.8ghz if I remember correctly.
It's a shame that nowadays every CPU below £200 is considered rubbish.

I'll be curious to see if any of the new 4/4, 4/8 and 6/12 rysens will unlock. Imagine unlocking £119 4/4 r3 into r7 8/16 :-), these would go extremely quick hah.

I think you should get a warning or infraction for bumping a thread this old without a good reason! :p

There was a good reason, it shows that AMD have made unlockable chips in the past, and the upcoming chips could be unlockable as well. By reviving the thread, no one has to go around looking for proof that it could happen.

Nah there wasn't. He could have posted in one of the various existing threads and linked to this one if absolutely necesary. I have never seen anyone denying that AMD made unlock-able chips in the past anyway, and unless you are very new to computer hardware you would know they existed.

Thread revivals like this just cause confusion... There will be countless people visiting this thread expecting to find some £26 quad core CPU... Some forums actually have rules which encourage you not to bump threads, and there are little warnings below the reply boxes on threads which are older than X amount of years/months. :)

Anyway, no matter. :P
