Hey guys,

Been tempted with the A321 for £600, but I'm wondering if I should spend ~£600 on a 26" panel to get better quality image?

It will be for console use and DVD, but no TV whatsoever. DVD player will be upsampling to 720p and consoles will obviously involve fast-motion.

The two gripes I have with some LCDs are the blacks and the ghosting.

Is there a 26" panel with really dark blacks and no motion artifacts / ghosting? I saw a nice Samsung with a 3000:1 contrast ratio in a shop the other day (don't know the model number though).

Thoughts?

Thanks

The main problem at the moment with LCD's is that real black cant be produced for whatever reason (unless you go up to the real high priced ones) saying that however I have both a Samsung 32" R41 and an 26" LG both of which arent great but you dont reallly notice it after a while imo

i've been looking at LCDs around 23" and 26" and the best so far seem to be the new Sony 26" and the Panasonic 26" (this is down to me actually seeing the sets) but the Panasonic doesnt have PC input, but does have 2 hdmi's. Im going to be getting the 23" version I think and us the component out on my graphics card or use a dvi-hdmi convertor (i think someone said they were available).

HDMI is essentially DVI + sound, completelty backwards compatbile - adapters are about £12

Interesting there is a set of that size with 2 HDMI ports, will have to have a look at that one.

yup, it does seem to me like the 23" to go for, especially that its truly HD ready and the whole set actually looks good and has a thin bezel.

Weird thing is though, the 23" costs the same as the 26" and the 23 is hard to find :(

I havent seen any 23" that are actually HDTV panels - not saying they dont exist just be careful, they could only be HD compatable or something rather than HD Ready

The panasonic 23" is definitely hd ready, having 2 hdmi ports and that fruity resolution 13xx x xxx.

Yeah they're 100% HD ready :)

Just been looking at them; I too am in the market for an LCD right now :D

I'm also looking at some offerings from Samsung, JVC and Sony!

It's interesting that the Panasonic/s don't have a dedicated PC connection? But as you say, you can just get a convertor for one of the 2 HDMI connections ;)

EDIT: Does anyone know their responce times? The website doesn't say...

I saw an incredible 26" Sony the other day, but it was £1000+ The picture really was something else though

Just had a quick look (online) at these:

Samsung LE26M51B

Samsung LE26R74BDX

Sony Bravia KDL-26S2010

Without seeing them in the flesh, how do I choose?

Look for a model with adjustable backlight, you can't get true blacks on a LCD, but if you can reduce the backlight at least get acceptable levels. The LG I had was quite poor so Star Trek/Star Wars space scenes looked pretty grey washed out. Laptops have adjustable backlight for power saving.

The backlight on the Sony is very adjustable, there are 3 powersave levels (off, low and high - I won't count backlight off :D)as well as 11 steps of adjustment at each level.

I'm happy with the black levels from my 26S2010

From reading from AVForums, the sony one seems to be the best and what people recommend. The sony is very reasonably priced for a Sony aswell!

Wow - those pictures look great :)

I've been looking on the AV forums too, and this Sony does seem to be the pick of the 26" bunch? For value and spec anyway :p

Stu.artd - Can I be really cheeky and ask what the actual measurement of the set is? WxH? I very limited to a 70cm width you see...

I'm always a bit wary of manufacturer’s specs :(

Cheers,

SW.

EDIT: Just seen your post in other thread!

Thanks for that ;)
