Hiya.

I just got a bit of a payout at work so got some cash to burn. I am STILL using my old 2600k, bought it when it came out and been at 4.8GHz ever since. Maybe time to upgrade to 5960x?

But will I even notice any difference? Mainly used for gaming on 2 x 27" 144Hz monitors.

Cheers.

the 5960x will be a waste if just for gaming, if you video editing and other programs that can use the extra cores\threads then it would be a good upgrade.

I'm still using a I7 950 for gaming at 3.6ghz and a 390.

what games are you playing and whats the rest of your PC specs?

I can still play the division with no issues at 1080P

your current cpu will be fine for gaming :D

I'm still using one and it's going well at 4.4ghz. Just finished playing Doom 4 and was getting around 80fps with a 970 all the way through.

Every year I've been waiting to see what comes out, but nothing so far has been a worthy upgrade. Maybe this year :)

Wait for Kabylake/Zen. My 2600K is hardly the bottleneck in anything gaming wise. Also, if you're playing on large resolutions, you'll be more GPU bound than CPU.

I agree with this, I'm still on a 3570k and it does me fine although I do wish I'd have gotten myself a 3770k as I think it would make quite a lot of difference now.

My 2600k is still going strong for gaming at 1440p. I usually like to keep on top of upgrades, but this chip has been going for well over 5 years now and it almost feels like a game in itself just seeing how long I can get out of it.
