2600k Stock Temperature?

Running at 37degrees idle and under normal use it goes to 43 degrees.... but i've had the case open today, and i've just closed the case and fitted a drive bay from the Antec 900 case into the obsidian, so this has an additional 120mm fan added to the front of it running full power... trying Prime this very second...

Managed to get it to 83 degrees before i caved in and stopped it lol. But it took a bit of climbing to get there, normally it gets there within 20 seconds, this one took at least a minute, and did go from 78 to 79, back to 77.. then back up again...

And it is running at 3.8ghz, not 3.4ghz. So they is an improvement from having the fan in the front of the case, just need to kill the Blue LED lights on it now so it looks more Obsidian styled.
1 second after prime 95, drops to 64, now it's down to 40 degrees.

Using a noc d14 cooler in mine, wasn't the most brilliant heatsink mount I've done (my application of the paste wasn't as neat as I'd have liked), but the temps it can hold are good.

Even after several (4-8) hours of prime95 torture with my chip turbo OC'd to 4.2GHz it only hits mid/high 60's at most on the cores, some of the cores sit around 60 max. At idle it's usually about 30 degrees. Never seen it hit 70 yet even when toiling the GPU at same time (running a game in the background) at the same time as prime95 to see how it would handle some more ambient temp floating around the case.

Here's what I was showing after 30 mins into the test and although wattage crept up a bit to a peak of around 101W after it was running for hours, the temps still stayed within the same min/max.

What ram are you using as the voltage on it is running at 1.368v which is a bit low.

Also what vcore is that at as easytune is only showing 1.224v which is good for 4.2Ghz

Easytune is the only program that show the correct vcore on my UD7 even though i thought that version of coretemp was showing it correctly at first.

I'm using Mushkin Blackline LV ("low voltage") which is rated @ 1.35v for 1600MHz. Funny thing is though, I can only set to 1.34 or 1.36 so I use the lower one now (gets me closer to 1.35V than 1.36 does) :)

The screenie isn't all that current, I've made a number of changes since so unsure what they all were exactly at the time.

I'm now at 4.6GHz (which was what I was aiming for) and coretemp is showing VID 1.3711v vs. EasyTune (bios) target setting of 1.35V, and an actual reading on the ET HW Monitor page of 1.28V most of the time, peaking to 1.32V.

Using LLC level 1 and set PLL Override enabled. Power-on multiplier 42x, turbo ratios tweaked in OS to 46x (each hour or so of my burn test I bumped the multiplier up another level until I got there, all seems fine).

Previously I'd not been getting above 4.2, although getting that was easy. This is pretty stable now.

Just ordered a new Cooler, decided to go for the H70 Corsair one.

Plan on taking the 140mm off the back of the obsidian, mounting this in the very bottom to suck more air from the base... i don't want anything on the front or side, so this is my best option.

This should pass into the main area of the case with the mobo etc. the corsairs internal fan should help it circulate.

Then i'll mount the h70 on the back of the case, with a push/pull configuration, i'll set it to draw the air into the case.. the air shouldn't be that warm... So theys an additional intake of air...

then have a 120mm fan on order aswel... this will be placed on the top of the case, exhausting all of the air out :).

Should improve the overall airflow of the case.. and help with the cooling a LOT.. If the fan is good, i'll buy another 2 and mount them on the top aswel to draw the air out quicker.

Ahhh.. Just installed the H70 cooler sucking more air in...
And added a fan on the top of the case, and another fan on the base of the case...

Running Prime95... So far theys a noticable improvement, system is sitting at around 57degrees. climbing very slowly... just going to leave it over the course of the hour to see what it actually stops at, been going a good 5 minutes so far.

Idle temp is 36degrees, but like everyone says, it's the load what matters, massive improvement from the 85 degrees 3 days ago...

It actually takes me around 4 hours of Prime95 before temps and load (in W) truly stabilizes with air cooling, it's an exponential curve (tapering off) as time goes on as ambient increases trade with the heat dissipation for ever more diminishing rises, but first hour is rarely going to peak - though that's with the CPU being OC'd, I never thought to do a long term run with it on stock.

Those hydro coolers are definitely designed for cooling the chip and not the case by drawing in cold air through its rad from the outside rather than exhausting it. So long as you have effective exhausting installed like you have now (top fan) it shouldn't be to the system's detriment, and if anything, hopefully keep the thing a little quieter too as the (cooler's) fans shouldn't need to work as hard for the same result.

Thats what i've done to my setup now. Can feel a massive difference in airflow inside the case aswel, can actually feel air getitng pulled in from the bottom with the extra fan, and feel a massive difference on top.

And when the case is open it's like a small blizard inside there. And everythings out of sight so the case's looks havn't been effected one bit :).
