2600K upgrade to SB-E

... In regards to the "Worst spare cash thread ever" comment, sorry that I work my backside off. I save my money, I don't drink, smoke or gamble. What's wrong with rewarding my self? ...

Ross

I agree!! on a slightly different note Ross, I'd like to have some details on your gpu set up as you have the same card configuration as me (well looking at your sig, your whole system is similar lol).
- Have you overclocked them? If so what volts/core clock/ memory clock are you rocking?
-What temps are u getting idle at at load?
- Average frames on BF3?

One thing I regret about buying these cards is that they do not have a standard PCBs meaning you cant get full cover water blocks for them, which at the time of ordering wasn't a problem, but now I have them, I want to watercool them lol.
What I'm getting at is that if I had the 'spare cash' in my pocket at the moment I would put my CPU in a custom watercooled loop and sell my XE's to buy some standard PCB cards, maybe these EVGA 580's, add some full waterblocks and back plates and be happy with the decrease in fan noise from the whole system.

:-)

Thanks, Adam

Hi Adam. Yes they are overclocked to 975/1950/2375. The volts are up +157 on MSI Afterburner and also +30 on the memory voltage. Idle temps are around 35ish plus or minus a couple of degrees. Load usually not above 65, 70 if the room is warm. Average frames, I honestly couldn't say. It never stutters and is always silky smooth! I am running BF3 with absolutely everything maxxed @ 1920x1080.

Very very marginally yes if its running at 16x/16x over 8x/8x. Hardly a few £100 worth of improvement however.
