So my ROG Swift PG278Q has died, again. Exactly the same symptoms as the first time it died within a month of buying it new. Pixelated/poor quality text and flickering in the top third of the screen.

I'm in a quandary as to what to do now.

My absolute must haves are:
2560x1440
27" (Although might consider bigger if the price/specs were right)
G-SYNC or G-SYNC Compatible

I am torn between an IPS Panel or TN and whether I should look to somewhat futureproof by going for a G-SYNC Compatible FreeSync panel if I ever move away from my RTX2080.

In terms of my requirements the only panel I have found which is Freesync G-Sync Compatible is the MG278Q ROG Dominator 27".

The other models I am considering are:
  • Acer Predator XB271HU (165Hz, IPS, G-SYNC) ~£600
  • ASUS MG278Q (165Hz, TN, Freesync/G-SYNC Compatible) ~£420
  • ASUS PG279Q (165Hz, IPS, G-SYNC) ~£670
  • ASUS PG278QR (165Hz, TN, G-SYNC) ~£560...although the 278Q Freesync/G-SYNc Comaptible model apepars to be the same panel but cheaper.
I was never impressed by TN colour/vibrancy but I am unsure if the newer models have moved along in this respect compared to my PG278Q. I'm tempted to go for IPS as it represents a change/upgrade from my now dead ROG Swift panel. I would probbably try the Acer as ASUS have left a sour taste in my mouth but plenty of reports of IPS bleed etc on this model...more of an issue with the IPS technology rather than Acer though I suspect.

I note the Aorus AD27QD is a newer 1MS IPS panel at a reasonable price but is not G-SYNC Certified, many reports of it being fine around the place though. Anyone got any experience?

Thoughts? Anything I have not considered which may be a better option?

The Dell S2719DGF is widely praised as an nvidia-compatible freesync 1440p TN monitor. It's £350 at the moment and I'm sure some people have picked it up for less.

Otherwise, say hello to the IPS panel lottery - afaik, every manufacturer carrying that AUO IPS screen have the same issues. I think the gigabyte aorus AD27QD uses a different panel, but I stopped researching displays after I settled on an alienware ultrawide.

Going to to the take the risk on an IPS, at least potentially some tangible upgrade over my dead TN panel. Loathed to spend the money on a product I had 5 years ago with no real upgrade.

In that case, buy it from some place that accepts returns without making you jump through hoops and pay for the return postage.

I bought 3 of the new Gigabyte Aorus monitors, they are simply sensational. Stunning IPS panel, very little glow and not a dead pixel in 3 screens.

Was going to go for the Auros but some research online showed varying degrees of compatibility with G-SYNC.

Ended up ordering an Acer XB271HU for a decent price. If it doesn't meet expectations the Auros will be top of my list.

Tony is pretty picky, if he says they're good then they're gonna be bloody good!! ;)

oiy lol

they are stunning to look at though, the image is perfect. No sign of ghosting, really fast, seems pretty impressive for IPS. I'm sure on professional tests it'll pick something up, but to the eye they looks so so good.

They are a thing of beauty.

Nice setup Tonyturbo78 wish i had space for something like that.

Thanks mate, it's been a want for a long time, YOLO right haha. You talk of space, look at the smallest space I've crammed it into haha. Up on blocks of timber to raise the screens above the box on the left, seat rubbing, hardly any room to get into the room as my desk and main gaming pc is behind me to the right haha. But it's all worth it.

One thing I will say about the monitors, probably the only negative I have so far which is on topic. Gsync compatible with 1080ti gives a bunch of black screens and dropping out of signal when running in triple. They are fine individually but Gsync on triples with 144hz doesn't behave. It works ok at 120hz though

Jesus!

Er... yeah DEFINITELY would not get that pass the wife.

Have tried the same kind of setup but with a VR headset?

VR just doesn't do it for me personally. Graphically it's like stepping back a decade, the headsets are uncomfortable for longer periods of gaming, they steam up and I get incredibly nauseous when taking it off.

After a nightmare with Hermes (groan) XB271HU finally arrived and setup. Very happy with it. I cannot make out any discernible IPS Glow/Backlight bleed with my calibrated settings an no dead/lazy/stuck pixels.
