27" monitor recommendation to pair with 5090

So, one of my current monitors has screen burn issues and I've been putting off replacing it. Now that I've upgraded from 3080 to 5090, I'd like to replace it with a decent gaming monitor. I would be replacing my "LG 27UK850-W 27" 3840 x 2160 60 Hz" and demoting my "LG 27UL850-W 27" 3840 x 2160 60 Hz" to being the secondary monitor.

I've been looking at the "MSI 27" MPG 272URX QD-OLED 3860x2160 240Hz" and this one is very tempting, but doesn't look to be in stock anywhere (or at least anywhere I've managed to check).

So, is there anything similar to or better than the MSI that would be worth looking at, or should I just hold out for that one?

Open to 4k or 1440p recommendations, but needs to be 27" so it can slot in between my work 27" on the left and my secondary 27" on the right.

@Jasseh

ASUS PG27UCDM.

If you watch HWU’s review of the MSI model, they conclude that the ASUS is the better model.

However, it is more expensive in the UK and you will have to pre-order it.

Edit: updated the timestamp.

Alienware recently announced the new 27" 4K OLED.

Take a look at that.
Thanks, looks very similar spec to the MSI. I don't see a price for UK yet, but I assume cheaper than the MSI based on the US expected price.

Thanks. I should find out what bonus I'm getting from work soon, as long as that is around what has been hinted at I'd be OK paying the extra £100 for this one. The expected due date is 2 months sooner than the MSI (on the same site) too.

I'll look at some more review videos for these suggestions while I wait to hear from work, leaning more towards the ASUS right now.

Doesnt the PG27UCDM have quite bad VRR flicker? (similar to the PG32UCDM)

It’s slightly improved as far as I know under ASUS’s antiflicker 2.0, but it doesn’t resolve the issue

The only way to avoid it is a frame cap / setttings where your FPS isn’t thrashing around all over the setting.

Is that likely to be an issue with the MSI / Alienware options above?

All OLEDs suffer from VRR flicker when frame rate varies. There is no solution to date for a monitor other than not using an OLED.

Have a google and there will be plenty of info availible on the issue.

Reviews of the PG27UCDM will set out how good / bad it is.

From my searching the best for (lack of) VRR flicker is the only Gsync OLED, the Alienware aw3423dw - https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3423dw
Text clarity isnt great thougj (7.0). VRR flicker 9.1

The MSI MPG 321URX seems quite rounded. text clarity 8.5, VRR flicker 7.8

Granted these are 34" and 32" screens but no doubt there's a 27" version

Edit - I expect the problem with going down to 27" is that quite a few are limited to 1440p, so text will look worse than 4k on a 32"

Yes I’m pretty sure that Alienware one is an older 1440p old-gen q-oled. The summary sets out it still has the usual VRR flicker and tbh im sure it’s a little easier to keep a smooth framerate at that resolution with a lower frame cap (175hz).

I expect that RTings review actually predates their methodology for properly testing it. You need to be a little careful with their reviews sometimes, the dates can be misleading.

yeah I considered that AW, the one that's £666 on offer now..but found out it's 1st gen.

Thanks for the additional suggestions. Sounds like the VRR flickering shouldn't be a main deciding factor and the ASUS may still be the best choice so far.

Why isnt the Alienware aw3423dw listed on that vrr-flicker article? Seems odd, unless they reviewed it incorrectly to start with by giving it a score of 9.1 (by far the highest OLED score and the same as IPS panels)

Personally im looking for something with clear text and no / very little VRR flicker whilst having a nice high refresh rate. Until then i'll just keep my Acer Predator X34 (IPS, 34" 100Hz, Gsync)

Yes exactly that. The AW monitor you mentioned is 2-3 years old and OLED tech / testing has massively improved since then. I think it may have been one of the very first OLED monitors.

So I’ve got the exact same Lg monitor as you. It was great but had it 7 years now and gone through 1080, 2080 Ti, 3080, 4090 and now 5090 so thought it was time to upgrade. In the end because of lack of stock of 4K 27 inch oled monitors I went with the Gigabyte AORUS 27" FO27Q2 QHD 240Hz. I was a little worried that 1440p would be a downgrade but the text is clear and games look great and for £599 I can’t complain. I might end up getting a 4K OLED at some point when there’s better availability but this will do for now. You should consider a 1440p monitor just as a backup like I did. I also bought a 5080 at launch and sold it when I got my 5090 FE so I might end doing the same with the monitor

I didn't even think about how long I've had these monitors lol. The one with screen burn was bought in November 2018, the one that is still fine was bought in August 2020. I do sometimes run my screens in 1440p, but like having the option of 4K.

Yeah I bought mine in June 2018 when I was still using my 1080, then bought a 2080 Ti at launch a few months later. Think I’ve run that monitor close to 9000 hours from last time I remember looking at the menu lol!

Just checked mine, 24,439 hours. 19,523 hours on the newer one.
