Some more thoughts after a few further days with the PG27UCDM.
When using the monitor for work it looked outstanding. Just made it look lovely and slick even though it’s just slack and documents.
I was struggling with the proximity sensor though - the monitor was turning off whilst I was on calls… then it turned off when I was playing a game, which was concerning - I was a bit worried it was faulty tbh. However, Yesterday I hooked it up back to my main PC and I couldn’t replicate the problem - was working perfectly - so I’m really not sure what happened. I’ll keep an eye on it. Maybe I just wasn’t sat in front of it, or something equally daft!
Playing around with some ‘dark games’, albeit not for very long, I still haven’t encountered more any VRR flickering whilst ‘in game’. My perception is that this is a non-issue.
Here’s a snap of me playing Doom (2016) on the right next to an IPS monitor that’s completely turned off:
^ I think this really shows off how fancy the OLED are… the blacks are darker than the ‘glow’ on the IPS screen. Crazy! And again, no VRR flicker.
I've taken some more snaps with 'windows open' to try and better show the differences with the IPS monitor and the purple tint ( @Spikey ):
Both off.
Both on (lockscreen):
More indicative of actual use:
Across all the photos, the purple is slightly exaggerated by the camera (much like how most people couldn't really see the Northern Lights vividly in the UK last year without their cameras making all the colours 'pop').
On that last photo, I could barely see it with my own eyes. I'm using the monitor right now to post and I have the same windows etc. up and I can't really see it at all - the camera definitely exaggerates it.
So long as you're not in a super bright room, don't have overhead lighting and aren't facing it outside, the reflections and 'purple tint' are non issues (IMHO).
