27" Monitor

I need to replace my 2408 WFP as it's developed a fault - which is also an excuse to change

I have been really pleased with the monitor and was going to change for another 24" but as I intend to do a lot more photo editing I thought it might be worth going for a 27" instead.

So my first choice would be the Dell UltraSharp U2711 27" but I'm wondering how good this monitor is or is there something better suited.

Like I said I intend to be doing a lot of photo/video editing etc but as it will be the only monitor it will be used for games also from time to time.

Any advise/recommendations welcome.

I upgraded my Dell 24inch to the U2711 yesterday.

This is a staggeringly good screen that I am extremely pleased with. I had looked at other models like the Hazro's and Apple's Display but in the end I figured that the price point of the Dell, it's connectivity options, it's 3year onsite warranty were all essentials that I couldn't live without. Add in that it is a gorgeous screen and the image is so vibrant and punchy that I am very, very pleased.

I have the U2711 and its an amazing screen BUT make sure you have enough distance from your sitting area to the screen.. I ended up getting RSI from having the monitor too close and using the kb/mouse in a bad position!

You may also want to consider the HP ZR2740W - it is another 27in 2560x1440 monitor but if you look at this review the input lag is OK (at 10ms) and the response time result was decent:

The ZR2740w showed a reasonable result in this test. There was some motion blur evident but nothing too severe. There was no obvious ghosting and no artefacts caused by the RTC impulse which was pleasing.

As you can see, the responsiveness varies between all these models shown above. The Dell U2711 has less noticeable motion blur and a faster response time. However due to an overly aggressive RTC impulse there is a noticeable dark overshoot behind the moving car which is a shame. The Hazro HZ27WA and C both feature a very similar panel (different version of the LM270WQ1) to the ZR2740w but did show a better performance in these response time tests. There was less motion blur on both although the WC model was quite close to the HP

That review also flags up the Hazro 27in monitors as having good motion handling and the HZ27WC model in particular has a similarly low level of input lag - so the non-glass version of this monitor is decent alternative (though there are a few issues with this model - specifically lack of HDCP).

That's the only issue that isn't an issue

As it only supports dual-link DVI you can only connect a PC to it.. and HDCP support on PC's can be bypassed. The Hazro rep also posted that newer models may actually support it though they wont guarantee it. So if you're lucky it might just work out of the box, if not use the link above.
