I have a 19" Samsung 930bf, I'm looking to upgrade my system bit by bit over the next 6 months or so.....First thing I am getting is a new GPU Ultra probably, Next Monitor.......So the question is?

27" or 30", using a 8800 Ultra.

Its for Gaming.

I have no "owner" experience of either monitor but I've looked at both.

Seems like serious gfx power is required to drive the 4m+ pixels of the 30". Unless you want to buy 2 of those Ultras, you may be better off with the 27"...assuming you like to play modern games at high resolutions that is.

The 27" will be just 1920x1200 the same as the 24" screens are. The 30" will be 2560x1600 so will need monster power if gaming properly.

When it comes to gaming the 30" is over the top and better off getting a HDTV if you want the large screen but 1920x1080 is OK for you.

Whilst the new 30" will scale it seems pretty pointless to me to buy the larger screen at a premium for the same resolution.

I've actually found 24" 1920 x 1200 to be the "sweet spot", the 27" won't give you any higher resolution and depending how close you sit may be a little "too big".

TBH i don't know why people keep saying that, 1920x1200 will look fantastic over 24" and 27", and i'd prefer the higher dpi for reading stuff like forums and having a bigger screen overall.

I'd def go for a 27" now, funds allowing.

Got the 2707WFP and i think its great, good dpi for reading i think. i had the 24" and the 30" dell's and i think this is a good middle ground. if you have the cash and want the extra size then you should definately get this monitor. excellent for gaming (COD4 Looks seriously good) and HD movies are excellent :)

Great buy.

screen is REALLY bright when you start it up for the first time. ive found a fault with it though

if you do PIP or PBP and the primary source is turned off you dont have a menu, you just get a message saying it has no input so you cant turn PIP or PBP off. or change inputs etc.

heres a pic with my somewhat little gaming rig next to it;

apologies for the quality i sold my DSLR to buy this so... you'll have to put up with phone pics.

well sitting in front of it its massive. starting to get used to it now though :( i get used to things too quick.

really do like this monitor. stying is excellent and it makes games and hd films look amazing

i'll re-take a pic in daylight at a diff angle.

i'm a bit of a newbe with monitors, the abbreviations went bover my head, i'm good with harware except monitors, more advice on setting one up would be appreciated, keep it in laymen terms. please

Picture In Picture (having a little preview on the screen of a 2nd input)
Picture By Picutre (having 2 inputs side by side)

you can only have 1 digital input shown (dvi OR dsub) and one of the others

this clear things up?

Yeah thanks, looking around at another post , someone has mentioned ghosting on Dell, any such problems on the 2707?

no ghosting from what i can see i tried re-creating the ghosting techniques i.e. dragging a light coloured square across a dark grey background and was fine.

also good in games. really worth the cash if your put off by the ghosting on the 2407wfp-hc. the colours on this are also superb, movies look great.
