27" or 30" ?

Thanks for that Steveng, I am Defineltly getting one, GPU first, just watching the prices at the minute, Then the monitor, about the same time.. I do have a last question?

Did you use the nvidea display optimization wizard to set it up, or the SpyderPRO, like in a review i seen?

I think babelfish has been on the case here!
Nice pics.

I'm leaning towards this getting one of these monitors. Only thing that i'm being wary about is not having a razor sharp text image when sitting at at my desk and blocky video in divx as the resolution is the same as the 24" screens.

How do you find the text quality in your web pages/documents and quality of videos when sitting reasonably close?

Would be nice to see one in the flesh before buying.

:)

I dont find the dot pitch much different from 24 and 27" visually. Text and pictures look just a sharp. It was always one of my concerns originally, but now I know I was worrying over nothing.

Trust me with a monitor this size you would not have it right up next to you, you will want it at arms length (at least).

I have a 19" Samsung 930bf, I'm looking to upgrade my system bit by bit over the next 6 months or so.....First thing I am getting is a new GPU Ultra probably, Next Monitor.......So the question is?

27" or 30", using a 8800 Ultra.

Its for Gaming.

I would go for the Dell 30" I thought it would be too big but its not its one of the best investments I have made. I came from having a £2500 Eizo 21" CRT which was excellent also but this thing is awesome for Games, Photoshop, Compiling etc.

You do find you move your head more LOL, but playing games is like being at the movies it's the dogs b''k's. The quality of the display is breathtaking in Crysis with 8800GTX at 2560 x 1600 at the highest DX9 settings set by autoexec file.

Remember that if you do come to sell, people will probably look for a larger screen so buy bigger now, especially as there is a newer model coming out. the price should drop again I bought mine for about £800 worth every penny.

I see what your saying but my system can't cope with a 30", not at the moment. I haven't even bought a descent gpu yet, thats step one. next week.

but i can't sli either just yet, i need to buy another m/board, cpu, and mem.
to do that, i see your only using dx9 to play crysis. anything to do with the fact you can't handle the 30" with your gpu? because it becomes jerky?

id wait for the next generation of gpus to come out before you go sli though. Dont expect to be able to game o that 30" with your current rig.

However now you have gone for a 30" you are destined to be ungrading constantly.

The next graphics cards should hit the shops around juneish i would imagin, maybe earlyer. Buying new mobo and sli your looking at over 700 quid just to run games on your new monitor with new cards coming up, but then again new cards will always be coming up.

How deep are your pockets?

I havent bought the 30" i bought the 27",

I'm gonna put an ultra in this setup, then later upgrade the rest (cpu, mobo mem), and look for a possible 2nd ultra, when the new stuff comes out and the prices for ultra's come down, the new stuff is only going to be a 8800 rebadged anyways,(9800), so that should stop me having to dig to deep.

I think a new gfx card will be next on my list as my 8800GT is struggling playing games at native res with all the eye candy turned on. The fan on my GT winds up nicely when playing for games (like COD4), you can almost feel its pain. :D

I guess 512mb of vram is not enough for 1920x1200?

Glad I did not go for a 30", that would be pure torture on the gfx card.

9800 is going to be a ultra rebadge? urmm, you do know the ultra is a slightly higher clocked GTX so its already just a rebadge..?
Its most likely that ultra SLI will not offer v good performance against a newer card that you could buy(obviously selling GTX to recoup some funds)

Nice choice of monitor tho, is it solely for gaming?

and i thought my setup was doing well with a 22" monitor.. man u guys framerates must be real low :p

i think 24" is where i draw the line with pc monitors, any bigger is just too big. To sit right in front of anyway

I understand what your saying peetee, but i need a descent gpu now, not in back end of march mate, i'm fully aware of what an Ultra is. whether its a good upgrade to get a 2nd, is debatable, however, if the prices plummet.
I might only pay 150+ for a 2nd hand one, so i won't be too disheartened
if it doesn't turn it into something special. I have seen some benches where ultra's in SLI, do make a big difference at high res.

Its not really about memory mate, cos due to bandwidth if you look at benchmarks the cards with more memory, don't do that much better.

Why not look at getting another card the same when the price drops in march. if your motherboard is sli that is....

Its here, installed effortless. WOW. Pics to follow....Thanks guys great advice!!!!!!!

p.s. running it at full res with 7800gt's, and played fifa06, and oblivion and hey its not that bad....looks like the sli, has paid off, still getting an Ultra tho...:)
