Some deals to be had with the 3600 lately and wondered whether to jump from my 2700... is it worth it?

Really depends on what you need from your system and where its limitations lie, if its gaming and you are GPU limited a CPU will do nothing for you.

If you were offered the 3600 free of charge, it would be worth it but certainly not worth paying money for.

Obviously the 3600 would be faster in games that used 6 cores max but when games are using more cores, the two would be about even.

Is it really worth paying money to go from 8 old cores to 6 new cores? When I upgrade my 2600 in a few years, I'll be going from 6 old cores to 8 or 12 new cores. Now that's soooo night and day.

An upgrade is only ever worth it if the improvement is 50% minimum, ideally closer to 100%. Just like when a supermarket sells products with 50% extra free, they sell so quick because it's a bargain and worth buying. You never see things like baked beans with 10% extra free because the gain is so insignificant. Yet if a CPU or a GPU upgrade has around 10% improvement, people wonder if it's worth it. No it's not!

I sold my 2700X system and went with an 3600 not sure why I did but it happen :D The only difference I can notice is raw benchmark data. The 2700X clocked at the same speed as my 3600 is quicker having the extra two cores. Not sure the change is worth it tbh. No difference to me at all.

You should see better and more consistent gaming performance with the 3600 over the 2700x.

but is it woth selling and buying a 3600....

i think not.

i have a 3600 and its a killer CPU, my brother as a 1700x@4ghz it dose everything mine can.
your 2700x should be fast than a 1700x, so just no point.

True. But that depends on the OP and finances.

At this point in time if the OP is considering an upgrade I'd wait for Ryzen 4000 but as with recent news that depends on OPs motherboard.

I see above OP has confirmed he has a B450 mobo so that rules out the Ryzen 4000 option.

Also... gaming performance on 3000 series is much better than 2000 series.

More consistent frames.

It's out there some where:
That includes X470 as well.

well that sucks for the people that got b450 with the plan to upgrade, and to them i say hahahaha...

but we have been told this before with the x370, b350 and a320 that said "NO 3000 SUPPORT" and we have not run into a board that dosent support the 3000 chips.
What about B450 MAX, thay was made with a bigger bios with the sole purpose of having a bigger bios chip to support the new cpu's.

Look like amd said the reason is the bios chips cant hold the code for all the cpu's
There will be a bios flash out, ever from the board makers or over at tweaktown

Apparently AMD will simply not supply the CPU microcode so it wont be possible for mobo manufactures to create compatible Zen 3 bioses even if they wanted to.
