I was looking at buying the 2700k that's on offer do you think that would be good for gaming at 1080p for the next 3 years?

I use one for gaming and general work.

But it depends of your going to utilise the extra hyperthreading cores, most games can just utilise 2 cores :p

But a good alternative is the 3570k:

I normally just play the high graphics games :) and I heard a few of the better games use the hyper threading?

Would the 2700k be better at gaming than the 3570k? I don't mind if it's only better on a few titles but obviously if it isn't better at all I will just get the 3570k.

Personally i'd go for the 3570k. HT not needed that much for gaming ( in fact I Don't even think any games use it) The OC ability of the 3570k and its better performance in games probably of more use to you.

I have a 660ti and I plan on getting the 770 when it's released. :)

Ha very good choice of card and will be very capable for a long while.

A 2500k or 3570k would be most peoples choice for a new processor for gaming. Not sure hyperthreading is going to help in the majority of games but over 3 years the price difference of the 2700k will not matter too much.

I am running a core i5 760 and that will be good enough for gaming when paired with a decent graphics card for a long while yet so anything faster more so.

Could you recommend me a cooler to go with it?

That's what I though the price is only £40 more for an i7 so why not?

K2 is a great cooler, but youll need low profile ram with it. Anything with fins/heatpipes will be a definite no go. I use corsair vengeance lp with mine.

Cpu wise, the 3570k will cope with the vast majority of games, the i7 cpu's such as the 2700k/3770k will only really show gains in multi gpu situations at high res above 1080p. Bf3 is one game i know of that will utilise hyperthreading that is featured on theese cpu's.

I will only ever be using 1 gpu and 1080p plasma tv:)

So 2700k would be wasted on me then?

Should I get the 3570k and a k2 and some low profile ram?

I just checked and the 2700k is only £36 more are you sure it wouldn't be better?

I don't mind paying more money :)

In that case go for 2700K then :)

Hyperthreading can always come in handy at some point in future and afaik BF3 does make use of hyperthreading to some extent

Better to buy it now than to be sorry and regret your decision later on

2700k will be a nice choice. Im on a 3570k here, but tbh im gonna get rid of it and move to a 3770k, will benefit more with sli.

would the 3820 that's on offer be a better than the 2700k as it's newer?

It's on socket 2011, not 1155.

Performance wise they are similar

Here is 2600k vs 3820 comparison. You will see there is negligible difference between the two even though 3820 stock speed is higher

However you haven't mentioned if you need a new motherboard aswell.
