Weird comparison but had a 3100 in my x570 board waiting for a deal on the 5000 series... But obviously isn't happening any time soon so seen a 2700x for £120, is this going to be better do you think for gaming?

Cool, well hopefully stops stuttering on a few games too... Was playing godfall on the 3100 with a 1660 super and 16gb and fps was good, just stuttering when big explosions etc

2700x is no upgrade at all for gaming, 3100 slightly better single core than 2700x, bet it edges it in most games, just develop some patience, there's tonnes of 5000 incoming just wait.

I have a similar situation as you. I did a build over summer knowing the Zen 3 were coming so I started with a bit of a potato (3200g)!

Have a 5800x on order which hopefully will hopefully arrive over next few weeks. I had a slight wobble and thought about cancelling in favour of a 3800X or 3900X, but decided to just wait a few weeks. I guess the problem will be you will have to spend 150-200 to make any real difference, so may as well wait. I think the 3100 is actually a better CPU than mine too as its a Zen 2, rather than mine which is a Zen+

If you didn't already have a CPU, I'd recommend the 2700X.

However, since you already have a 3100, it's not worth the hassel. It would only be temporary until the 5000 series is in stock. Then you'd have the hassel of trying to sell it again. Why bother?

I ended up buying and it came today... Can definitely say its worth the change from the 3100 to the 2700x, for £120 anyway - in fortnight the a 10-20fps gain on 1080p Epic and absolutely no stutter where as the 3100 was stuttering loads for the first couple of mins.

Hapy anyway and will just build another pc with the 3100, a good excuse to build one :D
