Having just upgraded from a 8800GTX to a GX280 I thought about using the 8800 as a Physx only card as I see a few here are doing. But if you do this then it would sit right up against the 280 virtually blocking the fan! So my question is to those peeps that have or are doing this is what temps on the 280 are you getting? I would have thought it would be an issue? Just curious about the ventilation before I try it out.

I haven't got such a setup but the fan shroud on the GTX 280 isn't flat and has openings at the back to get air to the fan.

And the fanspeed is temperature controlled so I guess it will mean more noise as the fan has to spin harder to cool the card.

And I think that keeping a 8800GTX for just physics is overkill to say the least, why not sell it for some extra cash?

Im after a 8800GTX ;)

I know it's overkill but it's still fun after all this is the overclockers forum :) TBH I just assumed that there would be little residual value left in it so it was a case of "might as well" providing in didn't cause undue stress on my 280 hence the post. But thanks never thought about the fan angle I'll guess I'll do some temp and fps tests now, just to see then sell it on.

@ almighty15 don't tell me you want it for a Physx engine lol
