please take a look at above pic in link for me(not sure how to get pics on here)

gfx card is 280gtx and after about 1 hour of gameplay this artifacting occurs and frame rates half. Am i need of a new card????

if a heat issue would applying new tim help???

if new card needed what do you suggest???
been looking at 7870 or if i can stretch a bit more maybe 670, or how long till 660???

thanks for looking

Ok will give it a go, it is and always has run at stock.

Just to add the artifacts only appear in one direction, what i mean is, if you split the playing field into north, east, south and west, they will only appear when say looking north from anywhere on the map.
My settings are mostly on medium@1080p and fps are on average about 55 but when the artifacts appear fraps report a solid 30, nothing more nothing less.

the gtx 280/285 are known to have issus due to factory oc setting being not 100% stable. i had the same issue with my bfg gtx285 ocfu card once i had down clock, the core and memory as they were linked. the problem had resolved itself. i suggest installing msi afterburner and down clock it by 5%-10% at a time until you hit a stable configuration. also when playing games try manual putting fans at 80-95% while playing. one other thing to try is to resit the card either in the current slot or in a different slot that can sometime help.

How are my temps at load?? Do you think fresh tim would help. Been on since new, think 3+ years, and i'm sure mine is a reference model, 602 core.

If the problem is directly linked to the card. Heat, age, e.t.c would i not see the artifacts wherever i am/look?

how much did you downclock the gpu memory?artifacts usually point to that

could take off the cooler/heatsink and blow all the dust out and clean/re apply some new thermal paste?

Down clocked to 520 on core, not muchdust in pc, clean it regulary. Will try some new paste, but in all honesty i think its about had it and time for a new card. It has served me well. Bf3 is about the only game i play but i tend to get shot oce the screen starts flashing

Ahh did not read properly, did not touch the memory! Will try that. But still leaning towards new card, birthday in 3 weeks!! Yey i wonder if i can get the misses to buy me one????

downclocking the core wont do much its the graphics card memory, try atleast 150-200mhz off the memory freq, and yeah you could upgrade but try and find out whats causing it

i had a overheating 280 back in the day, i cleaned out the fan, reapplied the tim, it made a small but ultimately a small impact on the insanely high temps i was getting

The only solution i found was to drop the core voltage by 0.1v(1.188v to 1.088v), this reduced my load temps to something which didnt crash my the card :P

7970 is cheaper, ive recently bought an msi 7850,couldnt be happier, runs 1050 core 1450mhz memory on stock voltage
