im a noob to overclocking and have just got a 2900 pro. i want to extract some more juice from this badboy without cooking it.

what is the best compromise between speed and heat, understanding that these r600's run hot anyway? card is stock cooled and running at ~62 during crysis beta @ 604 core / 609 mem. fan running @ 38%

what do you guys get away with core/mem running?! :confused:
 
Isn't that a bit low with the clocks there? They might be 2D clocks. Memory should be running at 800 at least. Overclock with Rivatuner, you should be able to get 742/828. Watch the temperatures though, try keep them under 75c or 70c for stability.
 
you are right, it was 2d speeds. i used AMDGPU clock tool to reset to default clock speeds. and now ati tool displays the correct speed.

clocked now at 685/819
