Hi,
I bought a 2900 XT from here a few weeks back, and it has been working fine. However today, i turned the pc on, and the fan started speeding up and slowing down very eratically and randomly, ive never seen/heard anything like it. There is no output from the card whatsoever. Ive contacted ATI, overclockers and Xpert Vision, and awaiting a reply. I have trawelled through many forums and cant seem to find anyone with similar problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

I am running OCZ StealthXstream 600w psu.

yep, im running an old X800 GTO at the mo and the system is running fine.
Just for reference my system is:

AMD Athlon X2 6000+
Geil 5300 2gb
ASRock AliveXire
OCZ Stealthxstream 600w psu.

RMA it back to ocuk, that's what ATI and Xpertvision will tell you (if you ever hear back from them).

it had been running fine on the OCZ for 2 weeks, and i think ATI recommend 550w, so i think 600w is fine if your not overclocking. Also i think what you mean is the fan going up to high speeds when the power cables are wrong or not enough power. Ive read about that in another forum. This was a case of the fan speeding up and slowing down very erraticaly.

An RMA was created and it has been sent back today, i will let you know the outcome.

I hope this doesnt happen to any other 2900's!

Sounds like a dead one. Try it one last time, firmly reseating all power plugs into the card. I assume you're using atleast 2x6pin PCI-E cables?

did u ever overclock it? if yes then maybe thats why.. plus ocuk shouldn't really accept the card back if its been overclocked....

No, i researched it thoroughly before buying it, and 600w psu is fine as long as you dont overclock it. Which i didnt, and they should be able to see that when examining the card. So they have no reason to not accept it.

I tried the card once more before sending it back, and the same result.

I checked all the plugs properly every time when fitting the card.

Yes i was using 2x6pin connectors, which werent adapters, they came straight off the psu.

i'm defecting to nvidia i'm afraid

A GTX I can understand. I hope you're not picking a GTS over this now? Benchmarks with the latest drivers show the 2900XT besting the GTSs in 99% of benchmarks and even beating the GTX in one or two. Well worth the money it is in my opinion.

You sure it beats the GTS in most things? Dirt is one game were the GTS totally walks all over the 2900, I was getting higher fps at the same res, but that was with 16xAA/AF, cant be too sure TDU runs better aswell since AA wont work for it, only 4x :\.

Oblivion is slower too.

I wouldn't, 8800's have had a slowdown bug since launch (last November), and it wont be fixed till sometime in Sept, and thats just the fix for the bug in Dx9, they say its gona be months after that before they fix it in Dx10, id stick with the 2900's. :p

Just a good reason to stay away from he 320mb version as the others are pretty much unaffected, well they do suffer with it to but with the extra memory you will probably never notice it or have any problems. :p

I dont have any probs with mine, and its not just the 320mb's that are affected, theres plenty of 640mb GTS owners, GTX owners with the same prob, just affects the 320mb GTS more. :)

can you provide links, benchmarks, so on for the 2900XT beating the GTS series in 99% of benchmarks.
