Didn't know whether to put this in sounds or here so apologies!

Basically i decided to run the my sound through my 2900 so i downloaded the drivers and whatnot, restarted and had no sound. At this point i realised there was a conflict between my Audigy 2 soundcard and the gfx card so proceeded to uninstall the soundcard(yes i know should have done this first!).

Anyway, got the sound working, tried to play COD4 online and it crashed to desktop. The way to resolve this is to plug your headphones in to the jack apparently but there is no jack on the gfx card!

SO...i tried to uninstall the gfx sound drivers and go back to the soundcard but everytime i restart xp detects the gfx card as a plug n play, the drivers are still there plus i have no sound again(but COD4 works) :(

Is there any way to get COD4 online working with gfx sound or if not, is there anyway i can get rid of these drivers that act like an annoying spyware!!

Ben,

There should be no issues with all of the drivers installed.

When the drivers auto install the sound device is automatically set to the 2900

You need to go into the control panel, open sound and audio devices (XP) select the audio tab and then change the default playback device to the sound device you wish to use.

Thanks for the reply:)

What you suggested does happen and it works fine but COD4 online won't work unless i have something in either the microphone or sound out jack of the sound card!

I've googled and that seems to be the solution to it crashing to desktop, strange!

Whilst using the hdmi sound, how would you even be able to use a headset or other peripheral??

Maybe i'm just dumb or something:p

I would assume that given the onboard sound is being piped out through the HDMI cable too, that you would have to plug your headphones into the televisions audio out jack (if it has some - most should).

I've also had problems getting the sound to work correctly over HDMI but when its setup correctly and the right device is set within the sound options as mentioned above then I've not seen any issues - it seems to work perfectly.

Tried in every jack and still no joy. If i can't find a solution then i guess i'm going to somehow have to get my soundcard working again:(

You shouldn't specifically need the headphones ! As the sound shouldn't be a problem - my Audigy 2 also needed disabling, but after a restart the ATI HD audio was detected and enabled as default.

Make sure you have your onboard sound enabled by the way - as its that which is being used!

Well well well - that would be your problem then, where else did you think the sound was going to be coming from if your sound card was disabled and the onboard was also disabled :p

Well the sound still works, it's just the cod4 prob i'm getting with it! Will try this when i get home though. Fingers crossed!!

You were right my friend! Enabled onboard sound, changed audio to the HD driver and left the microphone to onboard, plugged in a device to the jack on the board and hey presto! Thanks mate, Back to owning some peeps:cool::)
