Listen up guys, need some advice, I do like the 2900XT despite some of the reported problem and think it's a better buy than a 8800GTS.
I have a X1900XT 512MB and it plays most game maxed out fine and I was hoping what your views are and what do you lot think about the 2900XTX version?

I think you answered your own question.

Theres no point buying a new card at this point if your current card is performing to your standard. Hardly any games are coming out anyway, I'll say wait a year before you go splash out for new gfx card.

If you're not playing at a very high resolution then wait till you need a new card more. Then get your 2900 or whatever's good value at the time. They only drop in price.
The 2900XTX may not ever happen. Some are saying it's definitely not happening so don't wait for that one

It may not happen? are you sure about that? where's your source? anyway the resolution I play at is 1920 x 1200.
I do have to overclock the thing to as much as it'll take if I were to run let's say HL2 episode 1 at full everything with HDR otherwise it'll drop to below of an average 40fps but when it's all said and done it can handle most games fine, there are exceptions like Oblivion and a few others which can become unplayable but I don't often play them so it doesn't really concern me. I just like the HDMI and other features on the 2900XT thats all.

That's a big resolution. So if you have the budget then go for it (the new card). I personally am waiting for Nvidia's next beast. I have an x1950XT right now and can run games fine, usually with very high settings too - so I'm content.

I read it a few places somewhere hundreds of pages dedicated to the 2900's on these forums. Don't have a source I'm afraid.
Yes the 2900's HD credentials are good and yes it's gonna be nice a step up from your current setup but it is worth £250? Maybe it is, that's your choice :p

Coming from an X1900XT like I did, I'd advise you to reconsider the 8800 series, they're very hard to fault at this point. Granted, I've a GTX - it utterly destroys the X1900XT (which I really liked at the time).

If you have reservations about X2900XT than isn't 8800GTS the obvious alternative?

Agreed. I came from an X1900XT, not looking back because I couldn't be more impressed. :)

I think you are talking poo mate....I went from a 8800GTS to the HD2900XT and am more than happy. Keep you opinions to yourself.

Really?

Care to post some benchies and comparisons?

Really interested in this.

If the 2900 is much much faster the i'll get one.

Thanks

Oh BTW opinions make the forums what they are: A place of discussion

prove me wrong and I'll take it back.

Thanks

Considering the OP question.

One would assume he wanted a high end card.
I agree, I just thought that your branding of ATI as "poo" was not entirely accurate. :)

"Poo" in the high-end maybe, not in the mid-range/mainstream at all.

Never mentioned mid range as I was refering to the OP

The essence of this thread

Just get the 2900 :) I had the GTS 640MB but sold it because I didn’t find it THAT impressive. If I was buying a card right now and the budget was 250 ish I would not look at GTS.

the thing that really did put me off with GTS was C&C 3, it lagged at high setting but as soon as AA was off everything was running smooth but even 2AA was killing the performance, so I really don’t get all these people here saying that the AA performance of GTS is better than 2900. I don’t have a 2900 yet so I can’t really comment on 2900's AA performance but I know GTS’s AA wasn’t that good.
I played some other games like HL, CS: S etc. and I could run the games perfectly with all the setting on high, but i could get the same performance with 1950 pro i had so what was the point of GTS? Don’t know.
the other thing I didn’t like was the Vista driver, when i switched to vista all the games started to run slower.
atm I’m waiting for the new drivers for 2900 to decide to buy it or not. Hope the drivers are good or I might have to get a GTX.
