Okay so the card has worked perfectly until I came back from 2 weeks away today.

Now it has decided to only boot successfully after I spend about 20 tries with various combinations of drives plugged into the power and so on. Sometimes it gives out the graphics card error -... beep. Other times it just doesn't do anything. When it doesn't work the red lights on the card usually flash.

My PSU is a 550W Antec TruePower II with 36A on the 12+V rails so it should technically be fine. I noticed however that occasionally one of my harddrives (I think) emits an odd whirring sound much louder then usual. I thought it was a fan gone dodgy at first. It doesn't always do this so I'm not sure if that'd be causing the problem or not. My 3 drives still work fine in windows and right now the entire system seems to be fine.

I tried upgrading to the latest 7.26 drivers but the problem still happened when it went to reboot after installing the drivers. I had to try about 20 or 30 boots before it would work.

Now I am occasionally getting some odd lines in windows. Just until I refresh that part of the screen by moving a window over it. I don't have the card overclocked at all so it shouldn't be overheating. Max temps in AMD GPU Clock tool are 46 and 51 on idle so no problems there.

Oddly the problems don't carry over into games or atleast they haven't yet.

I just got a GPU recover after simply dragging files across the desktop into the recycle bin. It just froze up before i could get the files into the bin.

Does anyone know what might be the problem? Is the PSU not up to scratch? If so why are the problems only manifesting themselves now after the card worked for a week before I went away? And yes I have both cables plugged in :)

PC was plugged out completely. It's internet is wireless so it couldnt even have come down the telephone line.

Cutting back some on my CPU and memory overclocks to see if that might stabilise things.

Maybe one of the harddrives is dying and preventing the system from booting.

Try it with just the bootdrive attached.

The problem can still occur even with no drives attached =/

I had a similar thing to this and the bizarre fix for me was to remove the mobo battery then reset the CMOS jumpers.

Try that

Well it seems to be working better now. I don't want to have to reset CMOS as there's a lot of settings I'd have to redo. If I have to I have to I suppose. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it has fixed itself :)
