Is anyone else suffering from temperature related stability issues?

Using AMD GPU Clock Tool to measure temps, as soon as they get to 78-79 on ASIC / 72-73 on LM64 I'm suffering from game crashes, BSoD and even the occasional glitch in windows apps. I just attempted to play F.E.A.R and it only lasted about 10mins before crashing to the desktop, followed by a BSoD when trying to relaunch it. In contrast, I played HL2 DM for just over 2 hrs earlier hitting max ASIC of just over 73 & LM64 of 67 and not a single problem.

Not sure if I've got a duff card that is sensitive to heat, or if the extra power draw due to the heat I've seen mentioned is tipping to PSU over the top (I've got a Corsair 520W btw) or what the issue is.

Any feedback would be helpful.

As an added thing to watch out for, if something does crash to windows then check of the clocks have been reset to the 2D settings as I spent all last night heating the computer room on full 3D speed

Sounds like possibly a dud card? Are you sure the rest of your computer is 100% stable?

A Corsair 520w should definitely be enough juice as that's quite a solid PSU.

hmm, mine idles at 41c and load after 5 hours none stop games at 24x AA cranking it up, it maxes out at 67c.

not sure whats up with yours my old 7800GTX used to load at 85c some times, never did it harm over past few years.

btw im using stock cooling, 22c room temp

According to Vista's Reliabilty & Performance monitor. I've had about half a dozen unexpected shutdown's/OS not responding errors since I built it in the middle of Feb this year & it is on 24/7, so I think it is pretty stable. Since installing the gfx card, just Tues & Weds combined have been 4 OS hangs & 3 shutdowns and those are just what it caught and doesn't include any crashes to desktop.

Interesting. Are those temps measured with the same tool or something else?

There's no way that card should cut out at those temps... I suspect driver issues too but it could be a duff card. Have you tried the ATi uninstaller software followed by a driver reinstall? Also if this is an upgraded system a complete wipe down and OS reinstall may be in order, it's quite possible you've picked a few quirks up. (Corrected from a re-read)

Gift.

Sounds more like driver/windows problems to me.

I would have said that if it wasn't for the fact that it seems to be 100% stable at lower temps. In fact I thougt it was that orginally as after initial problems, I reinstalled them and everything was OK. At the time though I had the side & top off the case and it wasn't until later on when I had put it back together and under the desk that I started having issues again.
