290X Lightning fan problem

Happy new year all

My 290x Lightning has a strange fan problem the third fan has stopped spinning. It will only work if I set MSI afterburner manual fan profile and set to 100% and manually spin the fan to kick start it.

Any ideas.

I recalled reading that Lightning cooler fan don't start spinning untill GPU is under enough load or temp is high enough?

the other two are spinning but the third fan is not even under load. PC is locking up and crashing unless I manually start the fan With afterburner

Is it sticking with some dust or the like?

have had the card out and double checked seems all fine have used a can of compressed air also.

I have the card under warranty till Feb, should I RMA

just checked the MSI website and they have advised I should send the faulty card back to where I purchased it (Overclockers). is that correct

Components, such as for mainboards, VGA cards and multimedia peripheral devices should be returned to the place of purchase. There is no direct RMA to MSI available. The reseller will request RMA.

Mine used to do this, exactly the same. I fixed it by downloading a program called MSI VGA FAN, something like that (I think it might be listed under their 780ti software). Then, if I remember I loaded the program, then instantly closed it down and it all worked as normal. It's stupid but I think there's a bug in the firmware/software somewhere.

When I sold it I mentioned this but they didn't seem to have a problem, so I don't think the card is faulty.
