295 or 4870x2

Crysis needs more GPU power to max it out, as Warhead was optimized a bit more. I think that Crysis still looks nicer when maxed out.

/ot Thanks :)

I got Crysis off the MM to see what all the fuss was about, but I'm gfx cradless at the moment.

Is one a sequel to the other?

I see you have already bought a X2, I'm sure you will be more than happy with it, I'm just hankering after a 295 myself because I like Nvida drivers and the Physx I think is appealing too.

Even though I have a crossfire mobo lol

Ermm with Crysis you play a guy called Nomad, and there is a guy called Psycho in your team. At one point you split up and go off in different directions, Warhead lets you play as Psycho during that part lol crap description :(

295GTX is all around the better card in terms of stability, performance, power useage and cooling - but the price just does not work when you compare what you get from the X2 against it.

4870X2 gets my vote too, bloody stonking card!

RoEy - Theres a thread around here somwhere regarding Microstutter and ive posted a few of my results there.

Sweeet. Notice any micro stutter?

^^^ Here is the microstutter thread. Seems like recent driver updates have pretty much eliminated the problem.

Anyway, for 1920*1200 the 4870x2 (or even a single GPU solution like the GTX280) would be more than sufficient. There is only Crysis which would benefit from more GPU power. At 2560*1600 I would consider a 295, but for a 24" screen it seems to be overkill.

So how does the 4870x2 run crysis at 1920x1200 full detail?

RoEy

Pretty well - average around 30fps with 4xAA. It's perfectly playable; completed both Warhead and the original on those settings.

I get 35-45 sometimes 50fps with my x2 @ 1920x1200 most settings maxed out using natural mod too. I'm running a small overclock on the card but nothing much.

I would go with the X2 to be brutally honest. the GTX295 is too much more than the X2 to justify buying it. It's moderately faster in games, but when you can play any game on any resolution at max graphics (bar the crappy ports and Crysis which is a bad bad BAD example) boosting a steady 50fps, the discussion is moot. Go for theX2
