With many of the titles coming this year needing 2gb to run effectively I'm in the market for some new ram. As you may already have guessed I'm clueless when it comes to memory and the FAQ sticky has been a great help (thanks firegod!) in that it's suggested low cas memory still seems to be the way to go as far as the rest of my setup goes.

With this in mind I've been looking at the matched 2gb kits and whilst not as fast as the corsair cas2 kit at ocuk the geil cas3 memory seems to have had a favourable response. I'm trying to keep my purchase sub £150 as my finances are still ravaged after a Chritsmas so this looks about the best I can get in this price category.

What I'd like to know is how the geil I linked to would perform compared to my current ram shown in the pic below (2x512 sticks of corsair cas2) which seems to be a bit more responsive. As I mentioned I'm not that clued up on ram so am wondering what sort of performance hit I'd take in swapping my corsair out for the geil I'm looking at.

Thanks for any help/advice.

WOW that Geil is really cheap!! the OCUK kit is very attractive too!!

Last time I looked the Geil was still going for £160. I was in the same position as you a few months back where i upgraded from my 1Gb OCZ Plat. Rev. 2 kit (2-2-2-5 timings) to my current 2Gb G.Skill kit (2.5-3-3-6). I have to say at first I was a bit dissapointed because benchmark scores are not as high due to higher timings, however the performance lost is minor and is not noticeable in games where the benefits of having 2Gb easily outweighs the small performance sacrifice.

I'd go for the Geil because as you may have already read it from the 2Gb guide in this forum, that you can easily tweak the timings and make that Geil kit run @ cas2.5.
