£2k to £3k New Build Advice

They won't require Gen 5, they will be backwards compatible. The performance difference from Gen 3 to Gen 4 is 2%, so the difference from Gen 4 to Gen 5 will likely be nothing at all. The main benefit of Gen 5 will be being able to use fewer PCIE lanes for the same performance.

will be interesting though if as reported that 5090 is potentially 70% uplift on 4090 (which i find very hard to believe)...however, remember seeing enough people trade in their b450 pcie3 boards for pcie4 boards when the new gpu's came out...2% on a gpu that people paying £2k for, is £40 ...not much really, but £190 for gen 4 board or £190 for the gen 5 board that cost the same is £0 difference, so why wouldn't you...plus as you say, you get to use fewer pcie lanes for the same performance, and I'mpretty sure in a year or 2, the gen 5 ssd's will be a lot cheaper, so future upgrade on those, you can get a gen 5 drive if you need more space and enjoy the extra performance...like now, gen4 isn't exactly a lot more expensive than gen3, (not the case a couple of years ago), and if i want to add more storage to my b550 board, I'm stuck at gen 3 speeds regardlerss of what I get, as only my primary slot is gen 4....why when someone wants to future proof, I try and future proof....I don't know the future, but I can try to mitigate any problems now by getting as new a tech as my budget allows, and in this case the budget difference is zero

I've only looked in a couple of places so far but I'm struggling to see a Micro-ATX board for AMD which is Gen 5. I could go ATX but then that's additional money for the case and case size increases.

There are options for the Intel side but I'd need to look at the equivalent Intel CPU and the price comparison between the two.

Didn't realise these were so rare, the only one I could find was Biostar B650EGTQ.

Having a quick look..not much out there is there..nice find by @Tetras. Shame about the price though. To me, that brings it into @Eddie99 not worth it category...(same reason i went b550 instead of X570 back in the day...to get 2nd gen4 nvme slot was over £100 more, plus the x570 boards had a fan to keep the chipset cool, whereas the b550 chipset was passively cooled)

The Asus Tuf B650M-plus wifi only one I could find (at decent price) that'll give you pciegen5 m.2 nvme slot so at least in a few years if you run out of storage you can get a gen5 drive if price has come down, but nothing with a gen 5 gpu slot...the below on offer at mo reduced from £220 (price still £220 elsewhere)

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £169.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Ooooo 011d evo grey case for £119 on offer at mo...that's a lot of case for the money. guess having the bar down the edge is old school now

I have a board similar to that in a MATX build and it's amazing. I would certainly recommend them.

Thanks, I was hoping to order tomorrow, so I might contact support and see if they know when stock is arriving. Not sure I care to much about the m.2 slot but if I can get it and save £10 I might as well.

Thanks, I wasn't aware of that. I'd just picked the Gainward because it was all black. Only 2 years warranty with the Gainward I believe, so for an extra 3 years, I think I can live with the blue down the side (or cover it later)
Zotac offer a 5 year warranty if registered within 30 days otherwise it's 3 years something to consider.

Edit: Just noticed that's pre-order as well. So we'll have to wait and see.

Managed to find the Asus TUF Gaming B650M-Plus Wifi for £170 in stock. So I've just placed my order for everything, added in a cable and some speakers for a total of £2085.38. Thanks for your help and advice everyone!
