For some weird reason I've decided its time to grow up and buy a house - thus my MX5 has to go and is currently sitting on pistonheads :(

Anyhows i'm looking for a cheap replacement (both in initial purchase, running and insurance costs) to do the short (but generally rainy) trip to the train.

Basically i want something that handles reasonably well and doesn't cost the earth in insurance or running costs. I'm not really interested in getting a larger car (have the misses' mazda6 for that) and don't really need a larger engine thats going to be waisted on town driving.

What do you reckon peeps?

bye bye bye lovely little car:

Keep the MX5. Whats the point in selling it? It's worth what, £5k tops, it has a 1.8 litre engine, its cheap to run... what would you gain by selling it that'd make the blindest bit of difference?

If it's worth 5k and he buys a car worth 2k that gives him 3k in his pocket to play with, potentially on doing up the house.

more like sell for 7k = 5k to add to the deposit.

The real point is that I'm hardly driving it at the moment. Which will let me sit in the 10% deposit region, save a good chunk a month on repayments & still having some money to buy a bed when i move in :-)

To be honest i'm not ovely keen on french cars after owning a 206 years ago, but i'll have a look at the paxo - valver is more tempting though...

I read the first line as 'grow up and buy a horse'. I thought 'does he mean a Ferrari or an actual horse?'

That might actually be an interesting idea for a thread...

How economical is a horse compared to a motorbike? Are the emissions more or less harmful to the atmosphere? I think I have the solution when the world's oil supply runs out!

£2k, small hatch with some poke, it has to be the Saxo VTS... so long as you're old enough for the insurance not to be much of an issue.
