Had one as a learner car before the 205. Nice enough cars let down by the truly awful M40 engine. With a bit of money spend on the suspension, brakes and steering I reckon I'll have a fun enough handling car, ripe for a M42 to be dropped in once the NCB rolls in
Yer Bruv, it's for making teh skidz. Innit.
God, I didn't think I'd run into you here!
Just my insurance company's rules. I don't intend on changing (My policy somehow includes DOC cover, which is rather handy when borrowing one of the Parents' Bimmers
)
Aren't saxos smaller than 205s (albeit it, slightly)? Anyway, I hear offset pedals and size 13s (plus fat legs) don't mix. Have been tempted by the thought of a 106 Rallye, but that's far too much what I've got now. Insurance won't let me have a 16v
Golf GTi - Was brought up around Golfs with a MK2 Golf GTi being the sort of car I HAD to own when I grew up (This was before I got a copy of Gran Turismo and learned the wonders of Jap Crap of course). An oak green/Black 3dr is still on the to own list.
Legacy - I'm probably taken in by the thought of "Twice teh powas, twice t3h driven wheels and FOUR TIMES T3H CAMSHAFTZ" for £63 more a year to insure.
E30 - I like them, but understand that they are flawed.
My 205 has been well looked after, plenty of time and money has gone into it by the previous owner and it is an extremely fun car as it is. I just get the feeling what I don't like it as much as I should, despite the fact that I love driving it, I think I just fancy a change is all.
Pictures of it should be viewable here:

Sorry if I didn't make it clear, the 205 will be going in order to fund something else. No need for anything reliable, I've got a TFL bus pass to get me to work and back
.
Err, They're gay?
...
Okay, I am joking
. Would love one, but insurance won't permit me just yet.
May I ask if your XS' rear arches rubbed when you had a few fatties in the back with the 15s? Mine sure do
.
Might even say "Fudge it" and keep the 205, whilst getting something old and Japanese to lay up in a garage for a tinker until I qualify for classic insurance. Hmm, MK1 MR2 or MK3 Supra?
how does a e30 316 touring retain some fun compared to a 205?

How does your insurance limit you to 20 years old or younger?
I had a classic policy at 17...

That is a very odd list.
The golf gti, I doubt would be much more fun that your 205, maybe slightly quicker, and ever so slightly larger but thats it.
Subaru legacy, say what? why? Will be incredibly boring to drive.
BMW e30 316 touring, my thats specific. But why, again won't be very quick, and won't be that fun to drive. Maybe a E30 325 or something would be better.
If I were you I'd spend the money on making your 205 better, sounds great as it is. maybe an mi16 or something? Got any pics of the car? I'm interested.

why the two fun cars? Get something reliable for everyday use and pimp the 205 you have, they don't come much more fun than 205's except high end sports cars.

. Would love one, but insurance won't permit me just yet. I had a 205xs as my first car in standard form at 85bhp. It had spax adjustables all roudn though and 1.9 alloys
I now drive an RS4 and I miss the 205 loads. The way it cornered was just amazing and beign made of nothing much in particular it was pretty quick for a 1.4! The bit I don't miss is the unrefined feel to it
Out of your list the golg gti is the closest.
Have you considered a gti 205? Keep their value nicely and are reliable if you look after them. Don't bother with the 1.6 though as it's not enough of a jump from the XS.

Also the car has many electronics which scared me!
