2nd Domain Controller. Make Primary?

my 'now' old DC was also DNS and DHCP. I'm guessing I'm going to have a long day tomorrow!!!

So, Exchange 2007 SP2 I think. I'll need to kick off the DHCP on the new DC now :(

Poop

I hope you exported all your old reservations (if you had any) before removing the old DHCP server, otherwise... good luck :p

Give the new DC the old DC's IP as a 2nd IP (you can do this on one adapter if it only has one)?

Granted you'd have to give the OLD DC a different IP when you rebuild it, but at least any hard-coded apps and servers will see a DNS server on the IP they know about.

I had a small nightmare when I did a FSMO migration to an R2 Server 2003 box from a Server 2003 one (And non R2 domain)

Suffice to say it's bizzare how the adprep tool on the R2 CD 1 is different to the one on CD2 :p

I'll just spend half a day there tomorrow and get it rolling right.

Here's where I find out the Exchange store is corrupt from a dirty shutdown though, knowing my luck!

There is a difference of a few levels in the schema iirc 2k3 R2 is lvl 41

This is enough to cause problems thought if not done correctly :)

In other news, my Exchange store seems to have gone offline :(

The Exchange stores shouldn't have gone offline. Do you have the Exchange set so it automatically finds the DCs and roles or is it manual?

What are the error logs showing?

Most Important before starting and work, Did you have a action plan and backup?

Not sure if you'll need to do this - but if your bringing your old DC on to the domain with the same name you may need to reset the computer account. Also if after being demoted there are still traces of the server in the AD - you may want to perform a metadata cleanup prior to promotion.

It shouldn't do as the new DC should have a new GUID. Its worth checking though.

My point was that the tool on R2 CD1 is different to the one on R2 CD2. It's rather annoying when you don't carry CD2s around :D

Doubly so as no download for the damn thing seems to exist.

I downloaded a copy a few weeks ago from eOpen site, mind you MS have now changed that now to VL something or other. :)

It does make sence in a way as its a different production from 2003.
