2nd hand game means no multiplayer

Some companies see the second hand market as bad as piracy because the developers receive no profile. To be honest, I don’t blame them.

Not everyone can afford £30+ games though.

If they go down this route then I think the cost of games should drop.

Whats next?

Stopping rental companies like lovefilm or boomerang stopping game rentals?

Me too, especially considering the mark-up that places like high street retailers put on trade-in games. When you consider one shop I went to last week had MW2 pre-owned for £37.99!!!!

It's a joke isn't it! Sometimes they have used games dearer than new:eek:

Indeed, I walked into a popular game retailer a year or so ago and they had Fifa 09 for £29.99 and had it used for £34.99

I asked the guy at the front and he said that was correct!

Most games go down in price anyway after a while, and quite a few games are much cheaper from day one if bought on the Internet. Modern Warfare 2 is still £39.99 in most places though which is an absolute rip off.

If the buyer hasn't checked to see if they can still play the game after it's been registered then that's their own fault.

Yeah there are plenty of games that are only £40 for a couple of weeks. Many games get reduced quite soon and by quite a bit as well. Best example that comes to mind is Batman AA. I've seen this quite a few times i supermarkets for £15 and £17.99 and for a few months as well, not just recently.

Surely the purple game shop is heading down the road of price fixing especially now they own the other high street game shop with their inflated RRP prices and then having the second hand prices so high to push up profits.

I mean would Jo Public buy MW2 new for £44.99 or would they pick it up for £37.99 as pre-owned, then making more profit fr said retailer because they paid some other jo public £15 for it.

I think all this will do is make people far more cautious when buying, and will be less likely to fork out full price for a game. So, they might be able to sell more new copies of a game, but I don't think people will be willing to pay full price if they can't sell it on.

I'm sure they'd like more money, but imagine how authors feel when they see their work in second hand book shops? Should they start making the final chapter download only, redeemable with voucher in book?

End of the day, my feeling on the matter is, I have paid good money for this game. Should I deem it not worth my time any more, I should be well within my rights to sell it on in full working order.

My suggested solution - make games that people love so much they wouldn't dream of selling it on.

BC2 will ship with a VIP voucher which unlocks a lot of extras. If you buy the game second hand you'll have to fork out around $15 not quite as extreme but I can see this happening more
